Anyone know of any good ones? Thanks. There's a few on the Frommer's site but I thought I'd check here as well.
There's a place called Dosa Plaza that I should have gone to but didn't when I visited. It claims it has over 100 types of dosas in its buffet. I don't know how it's possible to have 100 types of dosas, so for the sake of cf.net, please go there and take pics. It's on Banjara Hills Road 1.
If you want some more expensive stuff, go to Ohri's (spelling?) There are two locations in Hyderabad. Both of them offer multiple restaurants and one of them has a really nice ice cream place. For example, there are Chinese restaurants (with an Indian spin), north indian food, and some other places. (personally, i think the chinese place was the best by far) Each restaurant is themed in some way and the food was pretty good at the ones I went to. It is fairly pricy though but you'll enjoy it. My relatives in Hyderabad were pretty quick to show off this place. Also, I know a lot of people hate fast food, but I think its nice to see how other countries spin it. For example, Subway there (one's in banjara hills i think and the other is in prasad's theaters across from NTR Gardens) has all the standard american stuff plus Indian subs like Paneer Tikka etc.. that were really really good. Also, Pizza Hut and Dominoes use different toppings and have different pizzas you won't find here. Yea we all hate american fast food, but it was pretty interesting to see and I enjoyed it a lot more.
The Taj Hotel in the Abits area is an absolute must. I used to hear about this place from my parents and finally tried when I was in Hyderabad last year. Cheap, and INCREDIBLE food. Try the masala dosa, with idli and sambar as the appetizer And of course lassi as the drink!
Actually that brings up a good point. If you're smart, you won't get sick off of the food. Generally, the better restaurants are fine health wise. The real problem is water. DO NOT drink the water served to you in cups. Boil your water at home and then refrigerate that or drink bottled water. Also, even if you order bottled water at a restaurant, don't use the cups because many times they might be washed poorly. Water generally is the easiest way to get sick so be really really cautious. Food poisoning is pretty rare as long as you eat at higher end restaurants.
Is that the clip from Conan? That was hilarious. For the diahrea? Buy some CIPROFLAXIN when you get there. It should be about 5 or 10 dollars for a ten-pack. If you have any issues, this will solve it. You take one a day for 3 days straight. Simple and cheap solution. Also, don't buy that medicine in America. It will cost you 100 dollars for 6 pills.
