Like baller4life posted, I wonder if the Magic would be interested in a #8 + Howard for #11 + Hedo. We could then pickup Shelden (if available) at #11 and maybe a backup for TMac at #32 w/ Tucker or Novak.

I wouldn't mind that, either. I think Keyon gives us the requisite speed/quickness in the backcourt and could be a valuable contributor off the bench.

    My 2 cents:

The Magic will not accept JH back to move up 3 spots. That is Fantasy Island stuff. They just got finished paying Grant Hill. I also doubt they would give up Jameer Nelson.

This draft is not "top heavy" by any stretch. Who are the heaviest players? Tyrus Thomas, Aldridge, Gay, Bargnani? None of these guys is considered a lock to be successful. This draft is actually weak at the top. You want a top heavy draft? Check out 2007, which will be one of the strongest drafts in recent memory even if there is no clear stud like LeBron, Melo or Wade.

We should definitely trade the pick to Orlando if we can get something solid in return. The Rockets picked the worst possible year to be a lottery team.

It would be DUMB not to look at ANY proposal for a Swap of First Rounders that would involve our getting rid of J Ho's contract- Can you imagine not having to deal with his contract for the next 2 years?

Everybody that wants to trade Howard for Battie, should know that Battie signed a 4 year $22 million extension earlier this year.

So there would be no cap/salary relief with this deal. And swapping them based on talent/production doesn't really excite me. Battie is basically a decent backup center. Meh.

Ariza's a scrub, I don't see him doing anything in the NBA, but I could be wrong

Battie is a hard nosed enforcer and has earned every bit of that paycheck. One of the best off-the-bench big men in the league, you normally hear some skepticism about every extension signed in the NBA but every journalist, critic and insider had no complaints about Battie's extension. Most thought he would have been paid more had he left Orlando.

And unlike what I've heard about Howard, Battie is a great locker room presence.

Zactly. A swap of picks and Howard for Turkoglu would be a gigantic no brainer. They're not moving Jameer. He's their point. I really think they are after Carney or possibly Gay if he drops. We could keep this deal in the kettle until draft day and see who else is there at #8. If Roy and Gay are gone, then we can either decide to take Carney or see if Orlando will offer up Hedo for Juwan to get Carney or see what other deals open up. If we could actually move Juwan's contract for a player that could contribute significant rotation minutes and bring us shooting, that would be a huge plus. It open up so many other options to us to bring in more guys with the draft, our trade exceptions and the MLE. Shoot, might as well go for the gusto. Convince Orlando to help us get Garrity by S&T for our lower trade exception.

Also, rumor going around that Colangelo is looking to trade out of the #1 spot. Toronto needs center and point guard help. I would bet that BC is trying to kill 2 birds with one stone, by trading down to get Marcus Williams and picking up a big man to go with him. The most logical choice would be Jamal Magloire but they still have to get a pick back to get Marcus Williams. So why not send Swift to NJ for Padgett and their picks and net back a $5.4 TE, send the TE to Toronto for a re-signed Mike James, send our pick to Toronto for their #1, and then trade down that pick with Minny or somebody in the top 10 for their #1 and other picks, then send Milwaukee some of the lower first round and second round picks in order for them to move Magloire to Toronto. We could send them one of NJ's picks plus one future 1st rounder and still be in position in the draft to have a top 10 pick plus a pick late in the first, early in the second to pick up Novak. Then we use our MLE to go get Drew Gooden.

    James Alston Head
    Roy (Minny pick) Head FA
    TMac Bogans
    Yao Deke Howard
    Gooden Howard Padgett Novak

The Rockets should trade down only if (1)their guy is taken ahead of them or (2), the guy they really want(Reddick?) is ranked lower. So maybe Ariza and n°11 pick (S. Williams, Rondo,C.Simmons...) should be enticing, though I would prefere a future first rd pick (2007 or 2008).

Somehow, I wish the team will get one of these players, Gay, Roy or Marcus Williams.

With this Rockets club, more is better. How about this?

Do the deal with Orlando for draft picks only 8 for 11, 41 and 44.

#11: Patrick Bryant or Shelden Williams

#32: James White or Mike Gansey

#41: Richard Roby or Shawne Williams

#44: PJ Tucker or Darius Washington

We won't hit on all four picks but it's very reasonable to get two players out of those picks and maybe even three!

I just don't want to look at a roster full of veteran retreads again.

Why Bryant? Mutombo is pretty ancient. 7' 2" guys with skills don't come down the pike all that often. Reduced minutes would be good for Yao.

The other picks are just some likely names: shooters and defenders.

That's a great idea but most consider Dwight Howard untouchable
    :p
I suggested Darko to emphasize that I wouldn't trade our pick unless we really got something great.

With those four picks you could pick up a starting 2 guard, a back up point guard and another big. That's why I would make that trade. Draft well CD and JVG.

"We'd like to convince some players in the 8-9 (range) to come in," Bickerstaff said. "We'll let them know that if we could get a veteran player or a pick" as compensation, they might trade down.

Maybe this is news to you but it was generally reported last year that Orlando is open (or looking) to move or convert Dwight Howard from the PF position to the center position because he is expected to grow as tall as 7'0'' or possibly 7'11' with considerable increase in muscle mass and weight.

That is why they were open to drafting Fran in the last draft. Orlando's brass view Dwight as a younger Shaq (they should know since they drafted Shaq in the early 1990s) - so ecpect them to look for other PFs as they move him to the center position.

Anyway, if a deal of goes down it is likely going to be on draft day and Boston will be the more likley partner since they are one spot ahead of us with a better chance to land the more desired Gay.

battie is in a contract year. he's overpriced and injury-prone (still he's probably better than stro) . as a centre he'll get an over the mle type contract next year easily.

if they get shelden they can play either dwight or darko at centre. their frontcourt is thin. drafting a c or pf would make sense for them.
