Saw the movie Sunday,... Turn you face SPOILERS***************** The part about Charles and the thing with changing into the mind of another when he gathered with the young kids by the TV makes sense concerning how he could have escaped death...Cyclops, they don't show so the explanation is open,...and Phoenix doen't die by nature... I liked the action scene of Juggernaut against cat and actually wished we would have seen more of him (yeah she was cute too)...I liked Wolverine's action scenes and his seemingly improved healing ability, I liked the central plot. I liked that they used a bit more of Colossus. I liked the premise of the sentinel fighting in the danger room. I did not like the flow or transition. It seemed choppy. They could have used minor characters a bit better. I wish for Gambit, but mostly Omega Red to have appeared. I give it a C+,...The weaker from the other two (with X2 being far away near excellent), but still enjoyable.
Well I saw it and it was "frustratingly ok." Not bad nor good. There were some good moments but overall the experience was borderline infuriating. I don't think they continued the natural progression of the second installment's storyline, pretty much every character was mistreated, the main storyline while fine seemed like it was being forced down your throat a little too much, and the subplots (mainly the Phoenix angle) was butchered. I hate that they killed/cured so many main players. What the hell happened to my X-Men?! This series (even IF they never created another) could have been open ended, where you could focus on certain characters in one movie and others in the next. It didn't need a set conclusion. And while all the character's fates could essentially be reversed (as the film does leave that possibility open), it would almost feel like a cheap plot device to do that. Then again, it could create interesting possibilities for the future. Ohter then that, there were some continuity issues, costume design complaints and the score was horrible. What worked? The production values were good, and Ratner managed what he could with the time and script given to him I suppose. There were some good moments here and there ( the Juggernaut/Kitty fight, most of the house brawl. But really this was such a frustrating movie, cause it could have been so much more. As it stands, it's probably on par with the first...maybe.
$103 million http://www.the-numbers.com/index.php I was only five million off, but at least I wasn't the dude that predicted $60 million.
damn, that's not even 103 for the whole memorial day weekend, that's just the 3 day total. holy crap. another 17 on monday for a total of $120M. i just thought it was OK and, while i figured it would make a lot, definitely did not see $103M in it's future.
I liked it and I usually don't like summer blockbusters. Although anything that's designed to make the avg summer moviegoer aka the 16 year old movie theatre loiterer go oooooh and aaaaah is r****ded. The moment that stuck out from this movie was the iceman and pyro fight where they do the whole ooooh who's more powerful and gets a wicked awesome catch phrase at the end of the fight. And if you clap during a movie you should be confined to a very cheesy level of hell where Will Smith keeps saying "gotcha sucka!" or something like that for the rest of eternity. It was a good movie, would've been great with Singer. Ratner was probably too busy screwing Hohan to make an A+ movie. Then again, if you won't even devote 2 whole hours to any movie these days you're probably asking for it.
It would be a great movie if they use CGI to make Nemoy and Shatner 40 years younger, like they did with X3. The world needs more Kirk. CGI movies make hundreds of millions of dollars automatically so I see no reason why a CGI aided Trek wouldn't make the same. It couldn't do worse then some of the recent installments.
Well, I seem to be in the minority, but I thought it was a very good movie. Certainly it could have been great with Singer and another 30-45 minutes to flesh out some of the stuff they glossed over, but I still really enjoyed myself. The visuals in particular took my breath away. Especially the final confrontation...that was just really cool looking. Oddly, I think I would look forward to a Magneto spinoff as much as I would (if not more) than a Wolverine spinoff. Ian McKellum (sp) is just so outstanding as Magneto, I love that character. ***SPOILER*** I actually felt more badly for him at the end of the movie, having lost his powers, than I did the deaths of any of the other X-men Charles included. *** SPOILER END *** I still don't understand why Fox has such dislike for this franchise. Hasn't it made a boatload of money for them? What the hell is not to like?
The FX Channel was showing X2 this weekend. Reminded me how great an X-Men movie can be. No cheesy dialogue, tons of intrigue and subplot, and massive character development. I'll take the scene in X2 between Magneto and Charles in Magneto's platic prison where Magneto says" You should've killed me when you had the chance" over any of the action scenes in X3 any day. The fanboy in me wishes Fox had waited for Bryan Singer, but I can understand why they'd want to make their money now. It's a shame, though. Singer, like Raimi and Chris Nolan, truly gets the source material.
Hell even if they give the film another year to develop I'm sure Ratner would have done a better job; could've flushed out some of the problems with the script, given characters more time to develop, make it freakin 2 hrs at least. But what's done is done.
It's a shame the movie did so well at the box office over the weekend, but not suprising. Maybe a better sign will be it's staying power, but I have a feeling it'll continue to do well. So Fox basically won't learn anything from this experience, which is the sad part.
