I think some of those bands lost there "indie" card the minute they were featured on The O.C./Gray's Anatomy/One Tree Hill/ and Six Feet Under.
Judging from some of there success, I belive "alternative" suits them better for catigorical reasons.

y donde esta el amor for Elctro Rock? Soulwax, Le Tigre, Peaches, Ladytron, Death From Above 1979, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Death In Vegas.

Nah, you can't group "indie" into "small" or "independent" anymore. It's evolved into a style of music. Just because Imogen Heap or Matt Pond PA or whatever suddenly appear on OC soundtracks doesn't make their style any different. A lot of people disagree I know, but I just don't think that kind of stuff shoots down their indie cred.

Lot of good stuff on the Garden State soundtrack that's gotten popular, I mean I doubt that anyone would have ever heard Iron & Wine's cover of "Such Great Heights" unless they're some hardcore Postal Service fans.

That being said I hate the fact that shows like "The OC" use this kind of music. It just doesn't go with their audience. The moment "To Be Alone with You" by Sufjan was put on their soundtrack I couldn't believe it. The moment a band like Ratatat is heralded by 13 year-olds who watch that show I'll give up every trace of indie rock and go back to Chevelle and Hoobastank.

    J/k...

Ladytron is awesome. Death From Above great too. LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture are also favorites of mine.

I love when Beck and Radiohead go electro...

I hate Pink Floyd because I have some inferiour complex disorder where I must hate everything that is popular. I must go agaisnt the grain.

Let me add Maroon 5 to the list.
    Did I mention Creed?
    I hate Creed.

Dang it, I didn't know there were so many kinds of "Rock" Genres... I categorize all my Spanish music, and everything in English is "en inglés". :(

If you really want some elctro rock I also sugest Justice (or any his remixes), Electrocute, Hot Chip (Over and Over is my favorite single this year), The DFA Remixes, Whitey (only available as import), any mixes by Digitilism and Birdy Nam Nam.

You know while I'm at it, you seem like the type of gal that might like some retro 80's New Wave. In which case check out VHS or Beta and Cut Copy.
Going Nowhere (Whitey Remix) by Cut Copy remids me of early OMD.

I know it is hard to do a poll on this thing - as you can classify some bands in more than one genre - such as Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd in classic rock in addition to the ones you have listed for them. For me, it is either classic or progressive but I am including in progressive besides Floyd bands like Yes, Genesis (up to the "Abacab" album), Rush, ELP, King Crimson, etc.

    Classic Rock

But to me: Led Zepplin, Lynard Skynard, Fleetwood Mac etc. are all part of classic rock.
