Yeah, that's terrible. If Eric Winston can become a starter, that'll forgive that pick in my mind. But Derrick Johnson would be so great.
That was just a bizarre pick. That was one of those "I remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about it" moments. I thought for sure we'd pick DJ. But, like I said in another thread, I'm glad he's not getting a free pass just because he was a 1st round draft pick. If you suck, you shouldn't play. Doesn't matter where you were drafted or how much money you make.
Yeah, I was in New York at the draft. We were not happy to say the least. At least the Rockets won later that day.
Just to throw this out there....other than the first 4 or 5 games of the season, DJ was a huge bust the rest of the season. He was just as worthless as TJ.
Do not taunt the UT fans. You're about to awaken a sleeping giant, and fill him with a terrible resolve. I'm no expert but I don't like the idea of playing Mario at DT, not even for a few plays. I think you have to play him at DE exclusively. I don't really see the point of having your best pass rusher play inside.
Well, that was in 2005. He wasn't fired until after this year's draft. Now, if you want to say he should have been fired before that draft, I won't argue.
i wouldn't call a guy with 95 tackles in his rookie season "worthless." yeah i'll agree with you that in november he was awful, recording just 11 tackles in 4 games, but he was very good the rest of the season and the guy will be playing in the pro bowl very soon. almost ALL rookies hit a wall at some point during their first year in the league, so you can't knock derrick just because he does what most rookies do in hitting a wall. in the end, the texans will be kicking themselves for picking a guy in johnson who is one step away from playing in the CFL to a guy who looks to be one of the best young defensive players in the league.
