then hate on Ralph cause he didnt pull any trigger

be thankful they helped bring us championships!

his team was too busy celebrating
    to bother with vernon hating
    so nobody was grieving
    at mad max's leaving
had things not turned out the same
mad max would have been to blame
    cause he committed a sin
that almost cost his team a win

There once was a man from Nantucket,
His job was to put a ball in a bucket,
But when the going got tough,
    He said he'd had enough,
And quit on the team and said **** it.

who are you kidding, about V-Max
the way he quit on the team, was quite wack
he could have come back, and dropped 3s like a hammer
instead he ended up, back in the slammer

Indeed, indeed... he was obviously befuddled
    His thinking process clearly muddled
This hero of glorious days gone by
Gave the team a **** you, and spit in their eye
The triumph saved Max from a terrible infamy
For which he should thank those he chose to flee
But we shouldn't forget his former greatness
And all he did for the glorious Rockets
Vernon earned the nickname, "Mad Max."
Now the time has come for a truce, a pax
A Pax Max from anger, if you will
For those of us who love him still
It matters not if Vernon is sane
A Rockets icon he'll forever remain

Yeah, well the official statement was that Iraq had WMDs. That wasn't true either.

No more for you, you're stoned.

Maxwell acted like a petulant, bratty child and quit on his team because he was upset about having a FAR better player start.

WAAAAAAAHHHHH, CLYDE TOOK MY SPOT, MOMMY, HE CUT IN LINE, WAAAAAAAAH.

That is a very different situation. Someone can go off and be a star in the music business no matter the people they have around them. If DU was holding Tupac back, he would have been stupid to stay with them.

However, Maxwell was being paid to play basketball, a team game where no one player can win all by themselves. Maxwell was being paid millions of dollars to play a game and when the team told him that they needed him to play a different role, as teams often do, he chose to act like a whiny little b!tch rather than suck it up and act like a professional.

Mad Max was a man who attacked
Both hoops and fans and his women were stacked
Him and Dream they were the foundation
Of a hard hitting team that rocked the whole nation

CD and Les decided to make a move
For a silky smooth two who knew how to shake and groove
Even though they were upset 'bout losin' OT
The team pulled together Sam, Kenny, Dawg and Horry

Max took offense cause he thought he was dissed
He took off his kicks thinking he would be missed
But the rest took the court, they were too filled with pride
To let Max hold them back, instead they blew up with Clyde

Noone gave them props said that they were relics
And nobody could win if they were seeded six
Through the Jazz and the Suns and the Spurs and Magic
The chemistry flowed and it never went tragic

All the while Mad Max whined
    Claimed that he was maligned
    Just last year he'd remind
    That's when he really shined
    On the links he opined
    That he should be enshrined
But of course he was blind
    And today he's confined

Well his legacy is clearly secure
It's as tarnished as it was pure
I take the good with the bad
and recall the fun that we had
    but he deserves the whippin
    for pulling a Scottie Pippen
of that I will always be sure.

    you havent seen rhymes
cause you think rap music starts crimes

    just because vernon was real
you didnt like his mass appeal

cause the rockets won a championship
and his teammates still love him so
    but you refuse to recognize
cause you think every brutha has to be cliff huxtable.

    Vernon was Tupac
but you guys wanted Young MC
    There's no peace on earth
    in this messed up world
Id bust that dude in portland for insulting my baby girl
Vernon was human, real and free
phoenix suns will always remember his 3s
    raining down on them
    so stop frowning on him
    Dan Marle, KJ,
    Charles Barkley
    but Vernon couldnt be stopped
Thats why Kenny Smith still give him PROPs

I don't understand all the hatred directed towards Maxwell. Everybody's got skeletons in their closet and Maxwell was no different. The guy was traded to the Rockets for cash and became the greatest clutch players in Rockets' history. He even battled and overcame anemia. If Maxwell, playing hurt, doesn't hit that key shot in the deciding game 5 against the Clippers the year before Houston won their first championship in the first round of the playoffs, then that Rockets team most likely would've gotten broken up and Houston would still be a city without championships.

Everybody's got problems. It took a trade that didn't go through for Robert Horry to overcome his self-doubt and lack of confidence. Dream allegedly faked an injury and quit on his team and was about to be traded to the Miami Heat for Glen Rice, Rony Seikaly, and Sherman Douglas. Rudy T was an alcoholic. Nobody is critical of them. So I don't see why it's useful or beneficial to single out Maxwell for his problems. Let's focus on the positive instead of the negative.

    Creepy
people like to kick a brother when he;s down
Rudy T has a drinking problem
but he doesnt have an ego like Larry Brown
    Horry was shy
Clutch City rose, and Horry pops 3s in Rasheed's eye
What about John Lucas, Wiggins and Lou Lloyd?
With their drug abuse, a championship quality team they destroyed
but we forgive them for that
Vernon gave us a championship cut him some slack
Why is calvin not working with the Rockets?
    this is just sad
Clutch City 94 was the best team this city ever had

Agreed. By the same token, without Maxwell we would never have gotten past the Suns in 94 and wouldn't have stood a chance against the Knicks that same year. I will continue to give Max all the credit he is due for the first championship run and he is due a LOT of credit for that. If there was a "big three" in Houston that year, it was Dream, Max, and OT.

The difference is, Horry overcame his self-doubt, Dream (if the allegations are even true, which I sorta doubt) overcame his issues and came back to the team, and Rudy didn't let his drinking impact the game.

In '95, Max flat out quit on the team immediately before the playoffs. I don't have any problem "focus[ing] on the positive," but when someone (tinman) writes a "definitive" bio on wiki and leaves out everything that happened after June of '94, it is dishonest by omission.

Tinman is claiming that Max was somehow a hero even in '95 after he quit on his team, the fans, and the game. That is what I take issue with and I will continue to point out the truth just as I will continue to point out the truth about how important he was in '93-'94.

    It is about honesty.
