I've got no problem with bringing Padgett back for the league minimum. I agree there would be scenarios in which he'd be useful. I'd only have a problem with bringing him back if it was with the intention of playing him big minutes. I doubt he'd even be a rotation guy though, so why does it even matter?
Great! Now the Rockets can waive RyBo and re-sign Padgett to be the 12h man off the bench...at least he's somewhat of an NBA-caliber player, can shoot and hustles as well.
Trust me, I would love to see every one of those scrubs leave forever. Sign Padgett, and cut any one of em. You forgot to list Bogans by the way. The only one who would help us more than Padgett is Wesley, and if we can keep him for next to nothing, great. Padgett, unlike those you listed, has proven that he has chemistry with Tracy. Also, signing Padgett would not affect our ability to sign more talented players. In no way could bringing him in hurt the team, unless we give up a 2nd rounder or trade exception, which we should not do. I don't see how we could lose by signing him.
That's true. I can't remember all the times that those two would run pick and pop, and Padge would get a wide open 3. It was very effective.
Aside from Padgett's shooting ability, is everyone forgetting his key steals. For example, who was it that got the key steals when T-Mac scored all those points to stun the Spurs in the final seconds of a game season before last? I know I will get rained on, but IMO Padgett was a much better defender than Ryan Bowen.
We are in desperate need of shooters and he's a cheap one. He's someone that the defense cannot afford to leave wide open. That alone helps spread the floor.
I would rather trade a portion of the 4.2 mill trade exception to NJ to relieve them of their salary obligation and obtain Padg without dipping into the MLE.
Padgett is useful on our squad, but to make him even the primary back pf is not a very good idea. He's shown that he was nearly useless in the last playoffs when our starting pf was missing. He should be a backup pf on our team who competes with another backup pf who offers a different skill set, and be paid accordingly.
People who bring up the point "he sucks because the Nets, a shallow depth team, cut him" make me laugh. Lots of situations were a player will be good for one team and not for another. Just look at how Tim Thomas has been performing for Phoenix! Padge was a solid performer for us last year and perfect for our lineup. It's just unfortunate that we have to do a 180 on what we want out of our PF. We went from wanting a bruiser, rebounding enforcer type to a feathery outside shooter... how???? Those pansy zone rules. I really wish Dallas hadn't let go of Nash. Phoenix has really set a bad example for the rest of the league at our expense.
If the Rockets were to resign Padgett, he'd probably be used in the same capacity that he was used in the 04-05 season. Why do people have a problem with that? He was an asset.
I would also like to see the team brings back Richie Frahm at league minumun. I defenitely like the team to bring back Padgett. I found it unbelieveable certain posters here 'hate' padgett even claimin his game winner shot against the knicks is a lucky shot. Unbelieveable!
is it just my comp?? why is my good old mate RocketsMac relegated to Rook status? i was sure he'd achieved member status!? the kids posts are, for the most part, solid. Has he done/said something to offend Clutch or other members? is it due to a lack off recent quality posts? considering my inability to access the net much over the next month and a bit my post numbers are gonna drop off...hope im not looking at any kind of relegation i'll be back with a vengeance and a ton of fresh ideas early july. 'til then, just tryin' to keep my head above water
Because anytime that a team sends out more salary than they take on, they get a TE. But in this case there's a technicality because we are using our exceptions to take on the salaries of all the guys we are trading for. That means that we essentially send Stromile's salary out and are separating it from salaries that we take back. So since we're sending out Stro's salary without taking salaries back (since they got separated) we get a TE that's equal to what Stro is making.
Rybo, Lampe, those are flat out scrubs begging to be kicked out of our roster. But Frahm and Brunson aren't that bad. Brunson was just brought here because we had like, only one PG at the moment, and he's retiring next season. So there. Frahm has his streaks. Now Bogans is decent, at the least. You don't ask too much for a guy whose's young and earns only like 1.67 mil and does that much. He could be better, just don't let him play T-Mac again. Please. Wesley is quite useful in some circumstances. He's a good defender, and an ok 3-pter. Dude, he's 36. I mean, what's to expect? Not really a scrub here.
IMHO, it doesn't work that way. Trade exceptions can't be aggregated (combined)...IOW our ~1.8M TE and our ~4.2m TE can't be aggregated for a single player worth ~6m. That's why we can't use them alone for Mike James. In your scenario, you are giving NJ a bunch of small exceptions by sending Padgett (1.7m), Wright (1.5m) and Planinic (1m) and aggregating them for one TE worth ~4.2m. Apart from the salaries not matching Swift's 5.4m, non-simultaneous trade exceptions can't be combined so NJ would end up with 3 single TE's rather than 1 large TE to obtain Swift from us...the basis of your giving the Rox a $5m TE. (Obviously, we could take them all with the 4.2m TE but that's still not enough in one TE since Stro makes more). It has to be done this way since NJ and the Rockets are over the cap leaving NJ with no mechanism for taking Swift's contract first.
GATER, http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=1477125&postcount=101 The exact same dyamics are at work here. For New Jersey, it's a simple 3 for 1. They wouldn't end up with any exceptions
NIKE - Disagree. The mechanics are different. ORL got the TE to acquire Francis (at his BYC contract value) because Lue and Howard came over on the same large Rice TE. The situation would have been entirely different had Howard and Lue came over on two different non-simultaneous TE's. This is what was being suggested by the original poster. If you disagree with this, then you are agreeing that the Rockets can combine their 1.8m TE and their 4.2m TE to acquire Mike James for 6.0m. I don't think you are suggesting that.
I don't agree at all and the situation is different than combining the TEs. Orlando didn't acquire Francis through a TE, and that's certainly not what Coon/Don Jones said. And I do think we could trade Swift for Mike James and 2-3 players with great enough salaries to match Swift's contract. For argument's sake, Calderon+Bonner under the 4.2m+100K, and Joey Graham under the small one). For us, the players fit neatly into the exceptions, and Mike James at 6 million is within 125% of Swift's 5.4 million salary. For the Raptors, Calderon+Bonner+Graham for Swift works fine, and then they trade James for "nothing", creating a $6 million trade exception. ***Please note - I am not using this as a potential actual trade, as Toronto would not deal both Calderon and James together. (As a side note, a potentially more realistic possibility would be to substitute Eric Williams, after he in all likelihood exercises his player option (4.296m) for Calderon+Bonner (4.3m). In fact, Graham can be removed altogether in either scenario, as 4.296*1.25+.1>5.4*** I think where you're reaching is here. The BYC value is completely irrelevant to the incoming team. Francis made 10.96 million, and no TE created would've been big enough to accept him.
