I knew two die-hard VW fanatics. One uses hers in stereo competitions and as a show car, the other restores old VW bugs and has a newer VW sedan. Both of them have told me there's no way they would recommend one as their sole source of transportation.

The other guy that I know that owns a VW Jetta always asked me for a ride to the mechanic. It really had some weird electrical gremlins.

Wow.....no offense, but that isn't much of an argument. A vehicle is a major purchase...one that most people , on average, don't even make once a year.

Because this isn't something you purchase every day or every week, you WANT to make an informed decision. You've owned two VW's? Big whoop. that's a drop in the bucket compared to what is sold every year. I'm sure there are plenty of VW's that are sold that don't have problems, but the numbers show that statistically.....you are more than twice as likely to have issues with one over some other brands. Anyone armed with just a bit of knowledge and a bit of common sense will find that information important.

The funny thing about this is that a higher up at Audi readily admitted in a magazine article that Audi had some quality issues that were unacceptable as recently as a couple of years ago. They had to change that...

So, in a word, yes... they suck. :D

I read the article at work, btw... I'll see if the magazine is still up there.

Why were Ford Tauruses among the best-selling cars in America? Or the Ford Escort? They were both pieces of crap vehicles. Never underestimate the ignorance of the consumer. Many companies rely on it... :D

Well, if you guys want reliablitie and "fun" car, go with Toyota or Honda, they're cheap, liable, and "fun".

If you want luxury, technology, all power, you gota go with BMW, Benz, or AUDI.

Audi is the premium version of VW, until you own it and drive it, you will never know the world of difference between a AUDI and Toyota, it's not even funny.

Yes, Audi is not as reliable as VW, and they're hella expensive for everything, but you get what you pay for, as for the eletrical problems, the reason why is that there's load of features and technology in the car, so something like that would happen.

I own an Audi, and I swear I would never find out that there's actually FUN to drive a car until I got this thing.

    VW SUCKS.

Some VW engines are strong, but then all the components will get you. I was just riding in a Jetta the other day and every time she turned off the car she would have to get out open the trunk and do something to the disk changer to make it work. The turbo VW engines are widely known to fly apart.

Man..you are really disappointed that I didn't buy an Audi, aren't you? It's almost as if you have a mancrush on Audi. An Audi is not a Ferrari. By the way, I don't ever recall saying that my Lexus was "fun." Do me a favor and point out to me where I said that.

FWIW, even if my Lexus is slow, it'll still last me a lifetime. I'll take an average acceleration car that will last me 200,000 miles over a car with zip that needs an engine overhaul at 25,000 miles. But I guess you already knew that considering that I passed over an Audi for a Lexus :)

"Yes Audi is not reliable as VW, but VW sucks"???

Dude, VW is AUDI and vice versa. what are you smoking? just like acura=honda, nissan=infiniti, ect

    Its called platform sharing.

ummm i think your talking-up audi just a little. I have a GTI and my gf drives an a4 1.8t and they drive almost identical. They feel the same, the a4 is a little smoother and more quiet. No big difference.

audi is no BMW or mercedes. Maybe the S4 is something to talk about but not many people will spend $58k on an Audi. BMW just has that extra something encoded in it's DNA that makes you want to drive just to drive around.

Why are there so many people driving VW? My wife wanted one because the bug is so cute. I check the price and it more expensive than Camry or Accord and less reliable, so we got a new Camry. If it is up to her, We would have a bug sitting in the garage! To me at least a car is just something that get me to places, as long as it can do that job really well and doesn't look like carap that is great. There are of course many people who want a car for the looks or how they handle, which is perfectly fine. However, I suspect there are more people who want a reliable transportation compared with someone who want a toy to play with. ;)

So, you're saying driving a Lexus is the same as driving a Toyota, and driving a Honda Civil is the same as driving a ACURA TL?

There's so many cheap VW models out there, side by side, they might using the same parts, but Toyota and Lexus? the same???? LOL......
Lexus is more expensive, so is AUDI.

Before, I got a 02 AUDI A4, but now, I got a 06 AUDI S4. To get a fully loaded brand new A4 when it comes out, you gota spend >40K.

That's what reliable will get you, 500K miles.

VW is the car that's having huge issues, not Audi, there's might be some, but not as much as VW, but so is every car out there.

And I seen some people driving Audi that has 250M on them, and run strong as hell.

your blowing it out of proportion

lets say more like a fully loaded accord v6 EX (or whatver they call em) vs. a TL is probably a similiar experience

sweet man..how does that S4 drive? what was your drive out?

    VW: www.vw.com
    AUDI: www.audiusa.com

What really bothers me is when people saying VW is AUDI, and vice versa, but the truth is that they never drive an AUDI before they make these common, if they own an AUDI, there's no way that will making commons like this, however, they might say stupid things like this when they only drove a VW.

From their manu. website, anyway you look it, there's a HUGE difference between the two brand, they might look similimar, or they both might be german car, or they might using some of the same basic part, but anyway you look at it, from models to models, AUDI is much more luxury, and better looking, much more expensive, and much more feature and power, basically, VW model is the low-end version of AUDI A3.

It's impossible for me to tell you what it's like until you drive it yourself. The best way is to go to their website and look at it yourself, it's better than me telling you stuff that you never experience before.
