The way Roy improved so regularly every year is impressive. he shot over 50% 3 of his 4 years and improved his 3 point shot to over 40% this past season. The maturity of his game, after 4 years in college, is great. I think he can come in and get 25-30 mpg of solid contribution as a starter immediately, which is great. The downside, of course, is that he doesn't seem to have the amazing athletic ability that will make him that 1 player in the later part of the lottery that is an absolute steal.
No significant weaknesses - EXCEPT for his surgically-repaired knee. I'd be wary of taking ANYONE who's had knee surgery BEFORE the Rockets even draft him, regardless of how complete a player he is. this isn't like understanding that anything tragic can happen when you take a player. this is more like understanding that there was a problem before, and now you're taking the risk that the problem won't come back [for a while].
If Carney has the right attitude and is a total gym rat, I would have no problem taking him. His athleticism and pedigree are off the charts, his mom was a track star and Carney has has inherited her gene pool. If his work ethic is there than grab him, you can't teach a vertical or speed.
Having a previous injury is really scary........look at what the scouts say about Okafor before he was drafted. He has a nagging back injury that's why Dwight is drafted ahead of him. As you can see, they're right. He's often on the IR list of the Bobcats........
When was Okafor's injury in college? Cause Roy got his before his senior year and he's been fine since. I truly believe Roy is our best fit.
I saw that too. That was the same logic they used last year when they passed on Chris Paul and Deron Williams for other Williams [sic] who now looks more bust that gold - I agree that the jury is still out but not drafting Paul likely set them back. They are a descent PG away from really becoming sonsistently good. After Knight is done with the charade, I'll say that there is a 95% that the Atlanta Hawks will eventually draft, trade for (Maybe Alston) or Sign (RFA or FA, e.g. MJ) a PG this offseason. And I bet Marcus is on their shortlist as well as Mardy Collins and Sergio Rodriquez (which means they might be willing to trade down).
