Who's going? I'm definitely going so I can shoot pictures if nothing else. http://www.orangeshow.org/artcar.html
I was at the Art Car Ball last night at the Meridian. Got in free thanks to my friends at KPFT. Lots of fun, lots of drink, lots of friends, but the only good band was the Flamin' Hellcats. Those guys are great. The Art Cars look very cool this year. Lots of fire/flames with the cars this year. Look out for the WOMEN WHO ROCK van with huge plaster-of-paris caricatures of Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, and other female musicians on it. The parade will be nice...unfortunately I have to miss it due to an early gig tomorrow night.
I'm going to go to the Art Car Museum right after work today. My friends "Fingers & Lips" are the first musical act to kick off the festivities. They are a musical duo reminiscent of the Will Ferrel SNL skit middle school music teacher Marty Culp & wife Bobbi. But "Lips" whistles/sings all the songs (she is a darn good whistler). They start at 6:30 if yall want to go laugh...
I went today and shot over 400 pictures. About 75 were worthy of making it to the web. Got a picture of my mom with Kinky Friedman. That was fun. You can look at all of them here .
Jeff, you took all people pics, where are the cars? I was there! I took my Mom for Mother's Day, picnic under the trees and the whole deal. She's from up in East Texas so the whole 'bohemian' atmosphere is a trip for her. My brother took car pics, I'll see if I can figure out how to post them... Brother's pics..of actual cars
I always find the people or little things attached to the cars more interesting than the cars themselves.
I'm all for free speech and what not, but I felt The Insurgents were in bad taste. First time I've ever been and it was a blast. Ran into heypartner, which is always nice. Got my picture taken with the next governor of Texas as well.
First timer here too and I took the girl and the kids - they loved it! Can't believe all of the work and effort that goes into making those cars into serious masterpieces. My favorite was the "Student Driver" car We are definitely going back next year (but bringing chairs!!)
My photos are here More info and links on the ACP here It was a great day for a parade, a bit hot, but tons of fun!
