My vote goes to NY. I love cities with mass transit transportation. LA is like Houston...to get anywhere, you have to driiiiiiiiiiiive.

If you love spending hours and hours and hours and hours and hours and hours in your car, you'll love LA. NY wins easily.

I will spend hours in a car to go to the beach over 10 minutes on a subway to freeze on some street. I don't do winters.

NY because I have more friends there hate sitting around in traffic all day and because I hate the Lakers and USC. Also because LA is stealing all the water from NorCal. Personally I would rather not live in either since spending long periods of time in either makes me crazy.

Every Houstonian who complains about Houston traffic needs to go try to live in Los Angeles for a couple of years.

My last few years in LA, I lived in Santa Monica, 10 blocks from the beach, and my office was at the Getty Center.

The commute, distance wise, is a little over 8 miles.

On Fridays, it took me an hour to get home.

Roll that one around in your head......

Houston's traffic is no where near as bad as the traffic in Los Angeles.

The traffic in LA is way overhyped. It can be horrible if you live in a place like Santa Monica. Other than that you rarely enounter horrible traffic.

The worst traffic jam I have ever hit was in Houston. In LA the worst I hit was once going to a Clipper's game, and another time going to Hollywood park for the horse races. With a little planning of route and time to leave, you don't really have to be stuck in traffic very often.

Plus in traffic in LA you can listen to your own music, have some elbow room, and control the temperature. In NY you might be freezing, or dripping with sweat on the subway platform, waiting. You might have to stand pressed against several other sweaty folks while for your trip, and then walk a good distance from your subway stop to your final destination.

I guess it is a personal choice, but I like having control over my environment while in transit, so that I can make it as comfortable and entertaining as possible.

The problem was living in Santa Monica. Hit the valley, and you could be home from the Getty center in 15 minites.

Santa monica has to be the worst. I know people who on their way home from work will actually park their car and walk home, then walk back after rush hour to get it. It is a nice neighborhood, but I couldn't take the traffic there. But other parts of LA aren't quite as bad. The 405 in that area is just the worst.

LA is awesome... I was in Laguna Beach for almost a year and I love everyday. NY smells like pee and people are a$$holes...

I've often thought it would be fun to live in NYC for a few months or a year. I love visiting. I don't really care too much for LA. I prefer SF in California if I had to pick a city out there.

I've been to both cities and they both have their good and bad points about them.

New York is an overcrowded concrete jungle. Football is not big there and it gets VERY cold there.

Los Angeles is nice but it is very crowded and I couldnt go certain places wearing certain colors. Not to mention they have earthquakes too.

I was born on Long Island...
I love going back every few years...
I love the fast pace lifestyle...

I would choose New York City.
