Where would you prefer to live if given the two options of New York and Los Angeles and why?

I would live in Los Angeles because of the Pacific Ocean.

i've lived in la and currently live in nyc

i would much rather live in the home of the scandalous big bad los angeles

weather is better, you can actually drive a car instead of having to ride the nasty, rat infested subways, rent is cheaper, and people are more laid back

I lived in Los Angeles for 12 years.

I have visited New York 20+ times in my life, most recently in 2003.

I would rather live in Houston.

    I met a man
    He was a good man
    Sailing and shoring
    Dancing the beta can-can
    Making me foreign
    Oh yeah

I want to live in Los Angeles
Not the one in Los Angeles
No not the one in South California
They got one in South Patagonia

I want to live in Los Angeles
Not the one in Los Angeles
They got a bunch down in Moleville
They got a bunch more still

I want to live in Los Angeles
Not the one in Los Angeles
They got one in twenty-five two five
    Works just like a beehive

I want to live in Los Angeles
Not the one in Los Angeles
    Counting helicopters on saturday night
The symphony of the fair light

    I hear saying Los Angeles
In all the black and white movies
And if you think they Star-Spangled us
How come we say Los Angeleez?

    I'll wait in Los Angeles
I'll wait in the pouring sun
    No way
    For not anyone
    No way

    I met a man
    He was a good man
    Sailing and shoring
    He got a betatron man
    Talking that foreign
    Oh yeah

    I'll wait in Los Angeles
I'll wait in the pouring sun
    No way
    For not anyone
    No way

LA, if only because I know that as much as I love NY, I'd go crazy living there. Either you live in a shoebox or an hour away from the city. I like to be able to stretch my legs. In general, I'm more of an East Coast guy, though. I wouldn't mind living in Atlanta, NC, or (greater) DC.

Every time I'm in NYC I get sick of it, but every time I leave I feel like going back. I'm a sick b*stard. I'm in NYC right now.

New York. The people are obnoxious, but at least they're real.

    Too many variables....

If I was young and single -- probably NY.

If I could afford to live in Santa Monica, or near the beach -- LA.

Don't think I'd be too keen on living up the valley in LA -- to far from where I like and I don't like driving. I don't know where families live in NY.

But I love visting LA. Haven't been to NY in a while. I'll have to plan a trip.

I vote LA. Let's pretend that beach house is my new place

Start spreading the news, I’m leaving today
I want to be a part of it - new york, new york
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it - new york, new york

I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn’t sleep
And find I’m king of the hill - top of the heap

These little town blues, are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it - in old new york
If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you - new york, new york

    New york, new york
I want to wake up in a city, that never sleeps
And find I’m a number one top of the list, king of the hill
    A number one

These little town blues, are melting away
I’m gonna make a brand new start of it - in old new york
And if I can make it there, I’m gonna make it anywhere

It up to you - new york new york

    This is tough:

Live with a bunch of materialistic people.

    OR

Live in the freaking cold and an overpopulated city.

I really don't know. You hear a lot of good and bad things about both places. I would have to visit and stay for a while and then give my honest opinion.

I would choose Los Angeles. Maybe because that is my hometown, and I've only been to NY once, but LA is great.

Perfect weather. Pacific Ocean. Mountains (real ones) nearby. Food is good, I could live on In-N-Out for years.

    LA.

i voted for LA. i prefer the year-round temperate weather and the fact that you can snowboard and surf within a short distance.

I voted for LA because of the weather, but I'd go insane if I had to live in either.

I picked Los Angeles, but I can't seem to pinpoint why...

I've lived in both. I lived in NY for almost 10 years, and LA for just over 2 years now.

If I was single I would live in NY. There are more single women there, and they have a ton more substance to them.

I enjoyed NY a lot for most of the time I lived there. There was always plenty to do.

After a while though, it sucks paying a lot for such small space. The cold is not near as bad as the heat. The summers there are horrible. There is a stench in many areas, buildings are too old to have AC. You wait for the train in dead still muggy air underground, the trains are crowded, then there is a walk outside in humidity. The grocery stores are the worst anywhere. They are incredibly small, with very poor selection, especially of produce. Then without a car or long walk to a parking space it is next to impossible to stock up on large quantities of groceries.

Putting up with that stuff is fine for a few years, but after a while it becomes impossible to ignore the fact that it doesn't have to be so hard.

LA has nice weather, great food(but no NY style pizza  ), and far more convenient. The realestate is high, to almost any place else but NY. So coming from NY it seemed quite reasonable.

The outdoor activities are the best. There is fishing, camping, surfing, skiiing, snowboarding, basketball, softball, available even during the winter which isn't available then in NY. It is far more convenient with better produce at grocery stores. The radio stations are better, and it is much more relaxing, and convenient.

After I have spent as much time here as I did in NY I might feel differently. But right now I am planning to stay here until I retire, and then move back to Texas.
