link : http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3849741.html Rockets center Yao Ming said his injured left foot is improving, but he is still wearing a protective boot and is unsure when he'll resume basketball drills. Yao broke his left foot April 10 in a game against Utah and sat out the final four games of the season. He had surgery that week to repair the fifth metatarsal bone in his foot. It's getting better every day," Yao told Houston television station KRIV. "Actually, I can walk without crutches. I get treatment every day, upper body lifting and some (riding) bike." Yao's agent has said he hopes the 7-foot-6 center can be back on the court in June and prepared to play for China in this summer's world championships. wish he would skip the world championships for more rest time
Just say NO to the "World Championships" Yao...It definitely sounds like things are progressing nicely considering the circumstances.Odds are he'll come back as even more of a beast, but we won't know until he hits the court.
Yao wants to play for China in the World Championships....he could care less what the Rockets organization and fans thinks if he is fully able to and fully recovered.....he wants to play. He does not need rest...he already has enough by June and needs to be in constant shape anyways. It's his country and no one but physical injuries and uncertainty is going to stop him from playing.
He rolled his ankle the night before he broke his foot, but he didn't pretend to be injured to stay out of Utah game. You think he would do it to stay out of WC?
Just hope Yao doesn't rush back to play in the WC's, and get himself re-injured, or more seriously injured, which could send the Rockets' next season down the toilet before it even begins.
Great NEWS !! And I hope he is healthy enough to play in the WC, that can only make him stronger for the regular season. Why worry, this is GREAT news. DD
QUESTION: Can you make your own decision on whether or not to play in these World Games or the Olympics or whatever if you are a chinese citizen?? Or is this part of the Communist rule? I guess I dont understand the politics there. Can Yao just turn his back on China and become a US Citizen? We saw last year what a summers worth of rest did for his NBA season - awesome stats and dominating on both sides of the floor. I would expect the same performance next season, if there werent these summer commitments he has in China.
if he wants 1.3 billion people hating on him, sure lol it's NOT required for chinese citizen to be on the team, however, i think majority of the athletes want to represent the country, look what happened to wang, he is now apologizing everyday and back with the national team i think everyone should already know that with yao's character it's nearly impossible to expect him to turn against his country, pride, but man, i don't want yao to get fat over the summer don't big guys gain weight faster and lose weight slower than normal people? let him keep exercising everyday
No, it is not that harsh. The rest of the world knows US a LOT more than americans know the rest of the world. It is a simple fact: americans do not know nor care what is going on outside of US.
Oh boy. Is every Yao thread from now until when he comes into training camp healthy going to turn into a D&D lite discussion.
Yao has a contract to play basketball for the Houston Rockets.Grey areas within that contract should not be exploited by the Chinese govt. while at the same time possibly risking the career of a potential all time great.Yao,of course will want to play for his country.I would too.But this just boils down to common sense.
Chinese basketball officials already declared publicly that they won't force Yao to play in WC. The decision is Yao's. So don't blame Chinese officials of Communist rule on this one if Yao plays. Why should Yao turn his back on China and become a US Citizen? 1.3 billion Chinese behind him is what makes Yao's marketing value so high, and it's the reason Yao gets so many endorsments. If Yao becomes a US citizen, he won't be nearly as porpular as a lot of players like Lebron, Wade etc. He'd make a lot less money. Plus, unlike a lot US NBA players, Yao is extremely loyal to his team, his teammages, his coaches and his country. That actually is a good news for Rockets, because most likely Yao will be a Rocket for his entire career.
