So they opened a new casino here a few weeks ago, Red Rock Casino, and one of the restaurants happens to be Salt Lick. Before yesterday, I had never eaten at SL...but after a trip to RRC, I can now honestly say that SL has some of the best BBQ anywhere. The brisket was extremely tender and the sausage was fantastic. This restaurant may be the greatest thing for ex-Texans that live out here. So...for all of you that still have access to fine Texas eateries...thank the good lord that you've got such great tasting food at your fingertips!!!
I was just about to say... you've never eaten at the Salt Lick in austin boomboom? for shame! now if the SL in vegas is completely unrelated to the original Texas one, then disregard =P
Mmm I've been to the Austin restaurant plenty of times. Best barbeque sauce ever, pretty much. My dad bought a half dozen bottles of it.
They are related. I think the Red Rock is partly owned by Tilman Fertita. He wanted to have a Texas themed kind of place, and brought Salt Lick into the fold.
ummm... i think y'all are confused. the only "Salt Lick" in austin is at the airport. the REAL Salt Lick is in Driftwood, TX. that's the location where i was married!
What he said!! I had heard rumors that the SL in Austin was great and all of my Nevada coworkers were gushing over the fact that they had eaten it in Austin and loved it. I was skeptical because I've been taken to a few Mexican restaurants in LV and none of them come close to anything that Houston offers (with the exception of a place in Henderson called Coyote Cafe).
so how is the restaurant in vegas? is it big? is there a million people waiting like the one in driftwood? i'm going to Red Rock in June.
I think the sauce at Rudy's is too peppery. Salt Licks is good...but that might be because of the "family style" option...
I like the peppery sauces. I am not a big fan of bbq sauces that are too sweet. Damn, I am hungry now! Where ?hell can I et bbq at 3:30am
I hope Fillman Twerpeeta doesn't purchase the Salt Lick!!! Whenever he buys a restaurant that is already in business, the food gets Honky-ized and genericized immediately. Case in point....The Grotto. That place used to have some of the best Italian Food in Houston. Ever since the Twerp bought it, the food has gone into the toilet. I only go there now for drinks during happy hour. The food just sucks and I refuse to eat there.
The restaurant is pretty big. I'd guess that it would seat around 200 to 250. Apparently they've been extremely busy...so much so that they changed their weekend opening time from 11am to 10am. We were there on Sunday morning at 10am and had no wait. There were about 20 people in the restaurant when we got there...it was packed when we left. One of my coworkers went on a Friday night and said that there was a long wait to get a "return time ticket" (which was about a two hour wait) and then when the ticket time had arrived, there was another wait to get in for seating. RRC is a nice casino...tons of places to eat...some nice, sit-down restaurants and a handful of fast-food type eateries (they look like a mall food court). Make sure to check out the 20 foot Wheel Of Fortune wheel that is over by the theater entrance. It's tied to penny machines...about a dozen or so people sit around this wheel and when someone gets to spin, the twenty foot wheel goes into action. Pretty neat looking gaming machine. The sports book is also very nice. Of course you'd expect everything to be in tip-top shape since it just opened. Good luck when you go in June!!!
That's where my brother had his wedding reception a couple years ago. Did you use those cabins off to the south?
