Tim Thomas has certainly surprised this series. But then, apparently Lamar Odom is really good now, too. And, to me at least, Shawn Marion doesn't seem to be playing like Shawn Marion of regular season.

If Tim Thomas has to decide between playing for Phoenix and playing for JVG, I can pretty much guarantee that he will stay in Phoenix.

Players dont exactly look forward to play in JVG's system.

Well said, TT is loving the passes from Nash and Diaw.

Tim Thomas is a free agent. He could be had for the MLE, maybe less. If we could sign him for part of the MLE (with the other part going to V Span), maybe we could use him at SG. He's a SF, so maybe he would have trouble chasing around other SGs. But we all know now he's clutch with the 3 ball.

I bet Phoenix gives him more than the MLE.

I bet they don't. TT is playing for a contract right now. He'll go back to his underachieving self after he gets paid, just like he did in Milwaukee.

A side note: He and T-Mac are very good friends, they (and their wife/girlfriend) have summered together in the past (I think it was Paris).

Tim Thomas will always be what he is: a lazy, underachieving, "powerless" forward. Three good weeks don't make a career.

If he can get more than the MLE from Phoenix, or anybody for that matter, he needs to build a bronze statue of his agent and put it in his foyer or something.

i agree that players would rather not play for JVG. however i don't see that as a determining factor for a FA.

    players priorities are as follows:

    1. money - we can offer the same deal they will (unless they overpay).
    2. PT - he would probably be a starter here, bench player there.
    3. winning - about equal with a healthy tmac.
    4. teammates/coaches - suns.
    5. city/weather - about even.

3/5 are even. he would have a larger role here with more PT as a starter, but more fun with the suns.

if you think about it, yao and tmac create just as many open looks for teammates as nash does. the difference is nash creates those open looks himself and yao/tmac force double teams leading to open players.

i would bet we have a very strong chance at signing him.

a heathy yao/tmac is tons of open 3 point shots for him.
instead of the juwan miss -2 you get a tim thomas 3pointer +3

I'll admit Tinman that Tim Thomas has really surprised me with his shooting. He didn't shoot well at all with the Knicks and after his initial success with the Bucks they gave up on him. Neither of these two teams nor the Rockets play fast break basketball like the Suns.
We won't able to utilize him well in Houston. Stopping quick 4's eg KG,Bosh will remain a problem too and he doesn't rebound much either.
I'm not saying that Swift or Howard are better than him but we need a PF who can defend, rebound and shoot so Yao Ming can have an easier time on both offense and defence.

    thanks saleem.

we desperately need some outside shooting also. look at detroit, they play good D plus they play good O. and they have tall dudes jacking up 3s. we'll never have a perfect lineup, but we really need to concentrate on shooting.

remember when we played phoenix on tnt and they built that 50pt lead on us?
it wasnt because we were a bad defensive team, it was because we couldnt shoot. they would rebound our missed shots and break each time.

We need more from a PF than just 3-pointers tinman. Do you really want to see a PF next to Yao who has NEVER averaged more than 4 rebounds per game? And who averages a whopping .2 blocks per game.

If you're talking about a backup for TMac, then I'm all for Tim Thomas, but saying he could be a solution at PF is silly. We aren't the Suns, we don't run on every play, we don't rely on 3's, and we don't have Nash. Tim Thomas is another product of Steve Nash and he'll go back to his regular self the second he isn't w/ Nash.

TT's stock has soared and his market value is a starter, not a back up 3/4 on a good team.

I couldn't agree more, I think we're looking at this all the wrong way. What we need is:

Guards who can hit the open 3 and play defense
A position 2 or 3 player who can dominate and take over offensively
A forward who can play defense and rebound/ hit a wide open 15 footer
    A top 5 center.

There's really no arguement on if we have points 2 and 4, or 1 and 3. Clearly we don't have a PF who can play defense and rebound, or guards who can play good defense and hit the open 3 (we're talking about guys who can do both, not adding two players ability together). TMac and Yao are there, but with some missing pieces still.

Point being: Tim Thomas does not belong on this team. He'd be a waste of money, and we have much more realistic needs to fill.

Have you just called Tim Thomas a 3pt specialist? He has hit a few in this playoff series but his career percentage is 37% which is far from being spectacular.

Tim Thomas is showin the world these important stats:
    CLUTCH SHOOTING
    HEART

The more people we acumulate with these stats, the more games we'll win.
