Errors don't make a fielder better or worse. Ask yourself this: If you had a chance to put in either Everett or Jeter as a defensive replacement at shortstop, who would you choose?
are you actually arguing that everett is a below average fielder? everett isn't anywhere close to being the better player but i'd rather have him and his afordable contract than jeter and his monster deal. nba players voted yao ming as the most overrated nba player so these lits are basically r****ded.
Errors are committed by players who are in position to possibly make a play. Good way to avoid errors? Get out of the way of the ball! Seriously, Jeter is not called Capt. October because the name sounds cool. The dude is clutch, swings a mean stick and has a decent glove and decent arm. Lock H of Famer. First ballot. I hate the Yankees with a virulent passion, but the guy is not overrated. Overexposed (since ESPN has de-evolved into the Yanks vs. Red Sox/ watch Pedro Gomez cover Barry Bonds channel) maybe, but overrated? No way.
Umm, you do know that a number of those errors attributed to Adam Everett were from hits no other SS would even be able to get near. And according to both MLB and ESPN Everett has an RF of 4.71 and FPCT of 1.000 compared to Jeter's RF of 3.60 and FPCT of .989. Career numbers are 4.59 and .975 for Everett and 4.19 and .975 for Jeter. And I always hear Everett's name among the best, if not the best, defensive shortstops in the league.
I was referring to 2005's stats. And anyway, apparently the NY Post made a mistake. The article thats coming out in the SI Magazine states Jeter was voted the most underrated player, but the Post got it wrong. George King and the NY Post are supposed to be sending in a contraction in a bit. And Everett is a better defensive SS, but to say Jeter is a below average defender is not true. Also name a good defensive SS in the AL thats worth damn
Andruw Jones has been arguably the best defensive outfielder over the past decade, and has been a solid, if unspectacular hitter who has shown a definite power spike over the last two seasons. Gagne put together the best year ever for a closer and was unhittable before he got injured. Rule0001 -- either you don't know much about baseball or are a complete and utter fool.
Hmm well I don't buy that he's the most underrated player as much as I don't buy he's the most overrated. His clutch play in the postseason disproves both those theories. How can you vote a guy most underrated player when he gets so much damn media exposure. Berkman would be a better bet. How much attention does he get outside the Houston market, and he's a viable MVP candidate.
He doesn't have better range factor, actually. Furthermore, there's been new research into fielding statistics. Everett is far and away the best defensive shortstop in the majors, Jeter is one of, if not the worst. As to this myth about Jeter being "clutch"... .314 .386 .461 - Regular Season .307 .379 .463 - Postseason 7 points lower batting average, 7 points lower on base average, 2 points higher slugging average. Yeah, he really dials it up in the playoffs, huh. Hint: There is no such thing as clutch performance in baseball.
