The neighborhood had reported our water hardiness at "17", which is pretty hard water. We didn't want to ruin or brand new satin nickle fixtures, so we decided to install a water softener. Personally, I can't stand soft water. Makes me feel like I am staying in a hotel. Plus, our water pressure is not all that great to begin with, so I end up staying in the shower 10 mins, instead of 5 just to make sure I get all the soap off.

    Which do you prefer?

Soft water all the way. I grew up on hard water, and it was the worst years of my life!

I have to go with hard water. I have long hair - thick and pretty much down to my waist - and I would be in the shower forever trying to get the shampoo out with soft water.

to the best of my knowledge, hard water is "hard" cause it has lots of minerals in it ...soft water is filtered to remove the minerals ......the biggest differences are 1) You use much less soap with soft water, than hard water 2) Soft water will normally not ruin fixtures (hard water, when it dries, will leave flakes and water spots) and 3) Once you rinse with soft water, you feel like you still have soap all over you, even though you don't

    i just thought of something...

i'm going to copyright the term "hard water". the term "ice" is getting kinda played out in the rap scene these days. what is ice? it's just hard water... frozen water. besides... which sounds cooler...?... "ice in my grill" or "hard water in my grill"? i think the latter.

    anyway... i prefer soft water.
