Houston has too many of these damn insects. how come houston doesnt have those little fogging things... ive seen em almost everywhere else
Mosquitos are annoying but not as annoying when youre outside and one of those trucks goes by. The stuff stings! I'm not sure if it really makes that much of an impact anyway.
It's barely May. And already it seems I can't go outside at night without getting eaten. And this is up in the hills, not even down near the coast like Houston.
Could diseases or viruses such as AIDS able to be transfered through mosquitos? For instance... a mosquito sucks on a guy with aids then moves over and sucks on your arm.. then you kill it and the blood smears all over your arm.
Don't sweat it. Aids transmission via mosquitos is not as easy as it sounds and thus highly unlikely.
Back in my hometown, my best friend used to drive one of those trucks, usually very late evening or at night. People would curse at him and throw things at the truck. I guess Houston doesn't feel they do much good.
I get the trucks coming through my neighborhood, but when it gets really bad and there isn't much threat of rain, I spray my front and backyards with a solution that is about 20% liquid malathion mixed with water. It kills the mosquitoes real well and keeps them away for a few days. Only trouble is that I sport a lizard tail out of the back of my jeans for a couple of days, but then it goes away. Just gotta learn to deal with the contamination effects of the malathion....
Many viruses, including HIV, are very sensitive to heat, drying, certain chemicals etc and they need very specific conditions for survival. When a mosquito ingests HIV-infected blood, the virus dies. The mechanical procedure of feeding wipes blood off of the mosquito's proboscis--it is retracted into a sheath. Even in geographical areas where mosquitoes proliferate, HIV is still seen only in sexual or blood-sharing adults. now malaria, that's a different animal...
Channel 2 said the city was starting to send those trucks out, last weekend. They said they were starting in the Southeast part of the city first. Bugs have been really bad in my area this year, I am more worried about my dogs getting heartworms than I am about myself catching anything.
Has anyone bought one of those MosquitoNix things where they come and set up a misting system in your yard? I was trying to talk my dad into buying one of those.
i'm sure those are the same people who leave buckets of water in their backyard for mosquitos to breed. the trucks aren't gonna completely obliterate the mosquitos, but i would figure every bit helps. as a matter of fact, my next door neighbor has an above-ground pool that has a few gallons of water just sitting in it. it's basically mosquito heaven.
I haven't even noticed many skeeters so far this year and I'm outside as much as possible. Now those friggin' flying ants for f$cks sake, I'm pretty sick of them sumbitches dive bombing my pool and calling it home. I squish their tiny heads yet they come back in schools.
just got bit by one of the buggers yesterday, but my Shaolin Mosquito killin Dragon Claw before it could take a blood sample to the mosquito master for feasting.
