Carroll Dawson was on 610 this morning. The reason was to announce that they will be back on 610. He talked about mcgrady, said he spoke with him and mcgrady informed him that he was pain free. That he should be able to start working out later this month and he will definitely be there for training camp. Said yao is healing really quickly, he might even be able to play for china this summer. Attributed the surge in his play this year to time off. Talked about spanolis. Said he is like tony parker, really quick. He will probably like the nba game more with the rule changes allowing for more freedom from the guards. Said the European league was tougher on perimeter players.
yeah i heard that too...but of course, it all comes down to the buy-out and how that partially affects our movement in the FA market (which depends on the draft...or is it the chicken before the egg?) the other bit i was wondering about was the long-term prognosis for tmac...i know they asked if he required surgery or anything and all he said was that tmac thought the doctors would let him get back on the floor in a couple of weeks. to me, that prognosis the key to our summer moves
Thanks for the recap. That's great to hear about T-Mac, but we've heard it before. I hope it's true. I kind of hope Yao isn't ready to go for China and I think CD thinks the same way. I like V-Span. He definitely isn't Parker-quick, but he may have Ginobili-quicks. It's a deceptive quickness. He doesn't seem that quick, but he always finds a way to the bucket, a la Ginobili.
I hope they bring V-span over this year, it is going to take some time for him to adjust, might as well get that clock started sooner than later. DD
Good to hear Tmac and Yao are progressing along. Although I hope Yao doesn't play in the WC games....they have BIG WANG ZU ZU!!!!!! AND FREE V-SPAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I would draft a european with our top pick....they always have great work ethic.
Agreed. From that highlight video you can easily tell that he's not as quick as Tony Parker. Maybe CD should adjust those glasses of his... lol. I'm still upbeat on VS being able to contribute next year though. Should be interesting.
I think he is just as quick. He's just not as fast as Parker is in the open court. I can't think of anybody in the NBA who is as fast as Parker, including Nash. But being fast is overrated. There aren't but 2 or 3 possessions each game where Parker gets to run unimpeded down the floor past defenders for layups. And against better defensive units like us and Detroit, those opportunities are even rarer. Quickness is all about change of direction and first step. You can be quick without being fast. This guy has those quick changes of direction that melts defenders legs right into the floor. And though he is not Parker in the speed department, he does have plenty of speed. I hope we bring him over.
V-Span will be huge. We need upgrades at PG, SG and PF so the Rox need three new bodies on the team. Hope VSpan can be one of these guys.
and i hope the draft can be another one. if Vspan is what they say he is, then the tag team of him and alston should be good. we would still need upgrades at the 4 and 2. however, i think it's gonne be hard to upgrade the 4 spot without moving one of our 4's to begin with.
Good post. I think that's the kind of quickness we'll see from V-Span. Nash uses that a lot. (not saying V-Span is a Nash, lol!) It can free you for the pass, or a quick jumper. Agree that we need to get him over here, and see just what we have.
the one thing that bothered me is that dawson said he could play some off-the-ball or shooting guard. I really wish the rockets would get out this mentality. their shooting guards are too small. go out and get some big guards, please.
At least he's bigger than Wesley and Head. When he said he could play shooting guard or off the ball, did he mean exclusively or along with playing the point?
In to-days game some teams have true playmaker Point Guards others have Shooting Guards playing in the position of Point Guard. V. Span could play in either .
I listened to the whole thing. I don't know if anyone caught the Ryan Bowen throw-in comment. They asked who will represent the Rockets at the draft, and CD said they're still deciding, and Lance said send Ryan Bowen, and CD said we'll see.
From the clips I saw, Spanoulis reminds me more of Leandro Barbosa than Parker or Ginobili. Not that that's a bad thing. Just an observation.
