why do some people say bottled water is a scam? I drink bottled water for the taste...not because I think it's safer than tap water. I'm fully aware that tap water in the U.S. is completely safe, I just don't like the taste of it usually
I totally agree, to me Wal-Mart water has the best taste and Ozarka is a distant second.. Some bottled water brands I cant stand and will drink tap water over are Aquafina, Sparklets and the worst of the worst is HEB brand water that stuff even has a odd smell to it .. I think the plastic these companies use plays a larger role in the taste than the actual water itself.. On another note the best tap water I have ever had was up in Breckenridge, that town has some GREAT public water..
Agreed. For the longest time I wouldn't drink bottled water because I thought it tasted like plastic. I think Ozarka and Walmart "Sam's" are two of the worst though. Personally I like Kroger's and Dasani.
We have a water cooler. We get four Ozarka 5 gallon bottles and a case of the smaller bottles a month at the rate of about $1 per day. I could really care less what brand we used, but my wife likes Ozarka, so that's what we get. I spent the first 12 years of my life in a rural enough area that we had well water instead of city water. You'd be amazed how good bottled water looks when all you have is well water.
Its funny...10 years or even 5 years ago, you'd be crazy to spend money on bottled water...Now, it's a necessity, not a luxury... I go to sam's every month and buy a crap load of Ozarka...I never drink tap and only use it to boil pasta or make hot chocolate...
THE BEST bottled water is Poland Spring. Only problem is, it's a bit hard to come by -- here in Pittsburgh, they only have it at RiteAid, and it's expensive as hell, comparatively.
I drink about a gallon a day, all Sparkletts that I have delivered. $3.35 a 5 gallon bottle, so that's .67 cents a day, give or take.
We've got a water cooler and we fill up our 2 five gallon jugs at some asian water place in the Hong Kong City mall lot. Sometimes I think all of their equipment is just for show and they are just giving us tap water. I only drink bottled water when it's free, though when my uncle had surgery recently, I was running errands for him and he sent me to get something called smart water that is vapor distilled and has electrolytes added to it. The bottle has some joke about how it doesn't come from a spring or from snow capped mountains and they wonder what fish or bears add to that water as opposed to the electrolytes added during their process. EDIT The price to fill our bottles is one dollar each.
$0.00. Bottled water makes great sense if you're living in Chiapas or something where your other choices are Coca-cola and dysentery. In most of the USA, it is a luxury of affluence.
what happens to all the plastic bottles when you are done drinking the water that you needlessly paid for?
glad to hear that. recycling is mandatory in nyc but that still doesn't account for those who don't bother to do so and all the bottles tossed in the garbage cans on the street or wherever. i don't know how many recycle in houston but in general it's better to have less to recycle in the first place.
A funny anecdotal story about Brita (caution: obscene language): http://stereolabrat.livejournal.com/241981.html
i think VOSS is the fanciest bottled water i've ever seen. it was $9 in a club in vegas. i was drunk so i needed it. no tap allowed there. i am a bit of a water snob myself. i do believe there are differences in purified and natural water. i personally prefer Ozarka. dasani, aquafina, etc are not as good even when they are cold. at home, i use brita filters and i started that 9 yrs ago when i went to college. good stuff too.
Completely agree with everyone who says this is a needless luxury. I don't spend a dime on water, either, and I drink tap water all the time. Seriously, is it really that inconvenient to get a 32 oz. cup out of the cupboard, put ice and water in it, and go? It takes me 30 seconds. I guess it all depends on where you live, though. I'm used to the way Houston water tastes. ie. tasteless. However I know that Austin water has a faint river-like taste to it, and that something in Lubbock's water causes discoloration of the teeth if you drink too much.
