My point is, I could easily argue that American citizens have a GREATER LACK OF RESPECT for our laws than these immigrants. Don't be so quick to look down your nose at these folks.

    1. Slaves were not considered citizens and they saught and received protection.

    2. MOST of the people protesting are not illegal immigrants.

Just tossing that out there for you to chew on.

Really? Can you site some examples of slaves having the right for free speech, to congregate or protest - under the 1st Amendment? Nor does that address my point anyway.

I wasn't talking about THOSE people. If you'll calm down and look at my response - it was in response the post than the 1st amendment didn't say anything about citizens.

Consider it chewed up and spit out.

That is what you countered with? :) Well done.

It DOES address the point that residents of America that previously were considered non-citizens gained citizenship and 1st Ammendment rights ...just as the immigrants are looking to do.

I'm calm. I'm glad I've got you looking out for my welfare. thx. ;)

    You said:

It has to do with illegal immigrants because MOST of the protesters ARE citizens who are protesting on behalf of the immigrants. Perfectly legitimate.

See now what you've done? Now you have to REswallow your chewed up food. You are gross. :)

Are you seriously comparing illegal immigrants to slaves?

From a basic labor economics standpoint:

If illegal immigrants left, the total number of jobs would be expected to decrease, but the market wage would be expected to increase in order to get American workers. It isn't that Americans are unwilling to take the jobs, it is that they are unwilling to take the jobs at the current wages. an influx of illegal immigrants drives down the wage.\

Illegal aliens are thought to shift the supply curve outward and flatten it.

A non-US citizen in the US still has the protection of the the Bill of Rights. This is why Moussaiou is being tried in US criminal courts because he was arrested on US soil and has not been sent to Gitmo.

Halfbreed had stated that only US citizens had a right to protest US laws. My point is that even non-US citizens including illegal aliens have that same right as long as they are on US soil.

It doesn't address what the Bill of Rights were written to do, which is my response. Slaves also aren't an answer to that point since they didn't have the right to protest/free speech UNTIL they became citizens. So while legal immigrants certainly have those rights, there is no indication illegal immigrants do, or should.

 <- That's for you since you're obviously confused. Nobody is saying citizens can't protest. The converstion is about those other than citizens.

Hardly. Pay closer attention to what people are writing and you won't waste our time reexplaining it to you.

I don't think these two rights are analogous. The government can, for instance, deport an illegal alien at any point. If the immigrant comes to their attention because of a public protest, they get no protection. I'd be interested to see what rights the courts have determined illegal aliens DO have. They are entitled to some due process protections, but I don't think that translates into the full sheebang.

But many illegals do pay taxes, because they use fake SS#'s. They have to or they wouldn't be hired. They have taxes and Social security taken out, but they never file for refunds or collect SS benefits.

Some might, but I imagine quite a few of the ones working for small construction companies etc where the employees are considered "self employed" or "contractors" aren't paying taxes

Definitely. It is not a 100% use fake numbers at all. That is one reason it is hard to definitive statements about it all

On a side note some of the elementary school students didn't show up today, and a few were taken out of class to attend the rally at 9 am this morning.

It is one thing for adults to boycott work, but taking elementary school students out, when they need all the help they can get is just wrong. They are hurting the wrong people when they do that.

franchise.. I was wondering about that, my sister is an elementary teacher and I was going to ask her if kids missed class today...

but she wrecked (probably totaled according to cop and wrecker) her car on way to school, so wasn't there. I'll have to ask her when she goes back tomorrow.

Illegal aliens are held to be covered by the equal protection clause under the 14th amendment. So it does translate to the whole bill of rights, more or less.

If I break into a house do I get a pass because I'm more law abiding than the person that lives there? How dumb is that?

The amount of gang activity and the amount of federal document fraud by illegals is incredible. It has gotten to the degree that they're destroying the integrity of the system in this country. Wake up.

By the way, how many times have any of you driven down the freeway having to dodge some cargo van full of latinos that has expired tags and billows smoke like a chimney. Oh like every day maybe? I know every illegal alien can afford car insurance too as they work all those low paying jobs that Americans won't work. Illegal behavior, yeah.

You solve all the problems (except gang activity) by legalizing or documenting them. Then they're forced to pay taxes (own part of the house), get licenses (legal tags, insurance and driving tests), and they'll be part of the system.
