I bought a laptop from dell last summer that, to my knowledge, has a one year limited warranty on it. Anyway, I just spilled beer all over it and it is no longer booting up. What should I do/How should I go about this? Should I tell Dell I spilled beer all over it? Should I try and play it off some other way? Anyone have experience with laptop spillage?

Thanks in advance to the friendly folks at clutchfans.

I spilled water all over my keyboard of my laptop last year, and just told them my computer wasn't working. It was covered under the warranty and I didn't have to pay a cent.

Then again, water doesn't have a smell and isn't sticky...

wow Drew, that sucks, sorry to hear that.

do you remember if you bought that extra insurance plan? cuz i know i bought a 3 year plan for my laptop, figuring ill spill on it at some point. i dont think the typical dell warranty covers it, but if you paid anything extra, i think its supposed to cover it.

    when do you finish finals?

Sometimes letting it dry out will do the trick.

Hit it with a blowdryer and if that doesn't work pour something on it to get the beer smell out.

    i'd agree w/Like A Breath.

also, did you get the accidental damage coverage? That would definitely cover it (and absolutely anything else, including "I got pissed and beat the crap out of it")

Give urself another week to see if it ends up working again. If not, febreeze it and do anything u can to get rid of the stickyness. And of course, pray that they don't care too much into how it stopped working.

Rinse it with a lot of water. Let it air dry for a long time. Then recharge it and boot it up.

Some electronics have a little strip inside them that changes color if it gets wet. They'll probably figure it out if you don't tell them.

One of my buddies kicked a beer into my laptop a few months back, luckily I just needed a new keyboard. They're going to find out what happened, you might as well tell them. BTW, it won't be covered under warranty unless you have the accidental damage package, I found out the hard way.
