I am probably in the minority here, but I think the Texans have had a damn good draft so far. Every year teams like the Lions and Cardinals load up on skill position stars and they are praised by a nation of football "experts." Every year they go 5-11 and set themselves up for another "great" draft. As much as I like Bush, I just don't think he would add enough to the Texans to make them a winner. The Texans did the right thing by shoring up the defense and offensive line. If Mario Williams really is as dominant as scouts think I just think his position is more valuable to a good football team. If you really think he is as good as Julius Peppers I think the Texans need that type of player the most. Being able to pick up help on the offensive line in the third round with Winston will obviously help the team. These picks also help make the Ryan pick palatable. Having an intelligent and productive linebacker for the Texans?! Unheard of! This certainly doesn't have the hallmarks of a Charlie Casserly draft. The Texans picked up smart, talented players at need positions without getting cute with projects, dumb trades, or reaches.
Once we took someone on the Oline (and then another!) is when I finally leaped back on the "Maybe they do know what they're doing" bandwagon.
we should trade with carolina here, give up our fourth tomorrow, and a 3 next year and get a Safety. Simpson and Bing are still sitting there and Carolina has 2 thirds back to back.
Darnell Bing? That guy sucked in the Rose Bowl. But in the 4th round, might not be a bad pick. I'd rather take Watson or Wright at DT.
Im glad David Thomas got picked by the Patriots. With Brady, Thomas will catch 4 or 5 passes per game.
I doubt they wouldve taken him this high if they weren't going to utlilize him. Thomas will probably line up on 3rd down and pick apart any LB tryting to cover him. He was selected over Dominque Byrd which is quite surprising. Byrd is going to be really good. Also, I can't believe someone picked Travis Wilson over Derek Hagan. Derek Hagan is a good WR.
This is the first time in 3 years that we have done a good job at addressing our needs. I like the Kubiak regime so far...
We really did have alot of needs this offseason. Which is pretty telling about how poor a job we have done in the past offseasons. Adios Dom and Charlie! Tomorrow, with the fourth rounder, hopefully we'll do something for the secondary. After that, I'd be happy with making our 6th and 7th rounders best-player-available picks.
That would probably be my pick, although I'd definitely listen to offers and hope someone fell in love with a player over night.
A lot of good players still left in the draft. S Ko Simpson would be the pick if it was up to me. S Darnell Bing is still there along with CB Dee Webb. With 3 picks left in the draft, my guess is they pick a S, CB, and RB.
I'm pretty much in the same boat. After hours of reading, listening to the "experts" on Sirius NFL Network...and after finishing my third Red Stripe, I've finally settled down and have started to think we've had a pretty productive draft. I'm actually kind of pumped to finally have a playmaker on the D-line and hopefully the Alabama LB can come in and get this group focused on the field. Drafting the two OL's back to back put a big grin on my face too. Still can't stand Casserly though.
The only Texans pick I got to actually see was Mario. After that, I had to work. Anyways, now that I'm home, I'm looking at our picks, and I'm loving the Demeco Ryan pick. He looks like a good playmaker, and a leader, which is exactly what our Defensive Coordinator has been asking for. With him and Antwan Peek(if he ends up at linebacker), that's definitely a good, young, intense core. As for the lineman, I've heard good things about Eric Winston, and I'm excited for him. I feel like he could possibly challenge for a job. I don't know anything about this Spencer guy. Anyone got any info? Tomorrow, we definitely need some secondary help (Ko Simpson, please!). After that, like someone said earlier, take the best player available. I know it's probably a reach, but I'd actually like to see us find a way to move into the early fifth or late fourth and take a gamble on Reggie McNeal. Like him or not, his potential is very intriguing. Other than that, I think these first four picks have sold me that these new coaches know what they're doing. I'm loving this draft so far, and I really don't think they can steer me wrong tomorrow. Let's get the season started!
