I think it was a mistake to pass up Bush but at least they could've tried to trade down. Maybe they did but who knows? Anyway Mario is gonna have to get around 15 sacks next year to justify this pick. I kinda feel sorry for the guy cause there are a lot of people upset by this.

In any other year Mario Williams would be the #1 pick in the NFL draft. It's just a little frustrating after months of pimping for Vince to finally accept the pick would be Bush, to actually being excited about the prospect of watching him run..the second coming of Barry Sanders.

Intellectually I know the Texans are making the right choice, you absolutley could not afford to have Reggie hold out because you were going to have to design 1/3 of your offense specifically for him. They made the offer he was worth and he didn't do the deal.

It's like wanting a pony for Christmas and waking up to find a bike. Good, fine, just not the knocked dead wow you expected so it feels a little disappointing.

Can't wait for the 33rd pick, maybe they will take Pope!

Okay, I wanted Reggie as well. Super Mario was a suprise. But I've been hearing on how the Texans are trying to get an additional late first round pick. What if they do move up and get Lendale White? Doesn't he fit Kubiak style of RB better? He's no Reggie, but to get Williams and White in first round sounds okay.

What I don't understand is how we can have so much money tied up in the D-Line. I know Weaver got like a $12 million signing bonus. Williams gets over $26 million guaranteed. Jason Babin and Travis Johnson got first round money, and Antwan Peek has a first round tender this year. Our D-line rotation will have to produce big time this year to justify these salaries. Oh yeah, the Texans resigned Seth Payne last year too to a nice little FA contract.

If it all starts in the trenches, hopefully the Texans will be well prepared to compete with the better offenses in the NFL.

Mario v Bush for defeating the Cowboys

We have to play the Cowboys this year. Do you think Mario is better for beating them or would Bush have been. this has nothing to do with who you wanted or who is the better overall pick. I wanted VY and he would have been the worst of all 3 to go 2-0 over Dallas.

All we need is an expansion team to beat Dallas. They suck.

i dont post very often but seeing people saying they won't be a texan fan if mario doesnt work out is frustrating me.. I have wanted Mario this entire time only because Reggie was not a texas player imo... His attitude from what ive read with the texans was not good, the NCAA violation situation is getting worse and worse.. and the greed he showed with the amount of money he was demanding was a sign of future problems with the club.. One reason I love my texas teams in all sports is because they dont put up with B S attitude.
Plus Mario will be great Reggie could be amazing or a back too small for the league..

Yep, it's official, I won't be able to watch the draft today. They just had Irvin ripping the Texans for passing Bush for a player who is clearly not a better football player.

Then you have the Saints telling Bush they plan on taking him. The Titans, Jeff Fisher, saying this changes everything. Fisher thought there was no chance that Bush would be available for them, but now have to seriously consider taking him even though they desperately need a QB.

The issue of to be a fan or not is not the issue. I will read John McLain and the rest of the Chronical sports staff as they report on the Texans. I will hope the team does well, and especially, hope David Carr is allowed to stand up and throw a few passes ( a washed up veteren center is not enough to fix the very Offensive line ).
The problem for the Texans is two fold. I will not spend money to go watch that boring, inept, embarrising, inept, overmatched team play. I aslo will have a choice to make on beautiful Sunday afternoons. Sit in front on the TV and suffer with the Texans and the lousey network announcers, or play golf, hike, work in the yard, etc. The problem with the Texans is that they are unwatchable. The ONLY reason they provided some interest last year was the race for the number one pick and REGGIE BUSH.
THERE IS NO REASON TO WATCH THE TEXANS and Bob McNair can't make us. IT is not a question of life changing issues like, should I become a Cowboys fan. It is the easy one of turning off the TV.

Just out of curiosity, what has this Texans team done to earn that kind of devotion? Put the word 'Houston' in front of their team name? Not enough, especially after phenominally stupid decisions such as what they've just done, as well as in pretty much every draft, in that their 'talent evaluators' have been smoking crack in the months leading up to the drafts..

Frankly, MW may have been (rated by the Texans' people as) the best player in this draft. That's fair enough. But if that is the case, when did the team's scouting people feel that way? In December? March? Last week? If they always had MW rated higher (as there is no doubt they will attempt to sell to the people in Houston), then they should have been touting MW's name from the beginning, and not allow their fan base to spend so much time, energy, and emotional investment in the 'Vince vs Reggie' debate. (If anyone believes that, had Bush's agent not been a total MORON and priced him far too high, we still would have drafted MW instead of Bush, then I hope the little delusional fantasy world you live in has supermodels and a hot tub too. This decision is about money, pure and simple.)

Because no matter how that 'debate' was going to end, ostensibly with Bush being the pick (and even the VYOF would ahve come around), people in this town would have been INTERESTED IN WATCHING what was the worst team in the league last year. Those people who are saying that that doesn't matter, that 'winning is the only important thing' are being both painfully naive and far too optimistic. This team is not going to have a good record this season, with either MW OR Bush. To make some kind of logical leap that somehow MW makes this team a winner and Bush does not is a mistake. This team needs a HELL of a lot more than just one of those guys. The rest of the draft will help, but obviously we can't judge that several hours before the start of the thing.

However, with Bush, people would have been willing to watch, to buy tickets, would have CARED more. 'Well, the team sucks, but at least Reggie will do somethign worth watching today." Nobody is going to go one step out of their way to watch Mario Williams. If there are those among you who don't think this is vitally important, then you should ask the Colts, the Rams, the Raiders, the Cardinals, the Ravens(Browns) and yes even our old Oilers team, exactly what fan interest means to a club.

Yes, it will (hopefully) be 'nice' to have an allegedly very good pass-rushing defensive end on the team. But to go through what we ALL had to endure last season, ending up with the #1 pick, and to come out of it not with Bush *or* Vince, but instead with the guy whom most teams have rated as the second best defensive player in the draft, well.. this is a choke job that fits in PERFECTLY with this city's history.

How were Mario's college numbers in comparison to Peppers -- that's what counts.

The "spectacular" player effect gets old, after the team doesn't start winning, especially in the NFL:
    1.) Barry Sanders in Detroit
    2.) Michael Vick in Atlanta
    3.) Randy Moss in Minnesota/Oakland
    4.) Vince Carter in Toronto
    5.) Dominique Wilikins in Atlanta

If the team can be better, longer, with an improved defense... and improved offense with Kubiak's coaching, they'll get plenty more fans.

If Marios turns out to be a great pro bowler, and helps the texans get to the superbowl, and reggie bush turnsout to be barry sanders... how will you feel? ill be happy because Mario filled the teams holes... Like some1 already said, barry never won..... Running back is not as important as DE... not to mention we have DD whos a thousand yard rusher with the horrible O LINE

To those of you saying you won't be a fan anymore because of this pick: Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

The Texans will lose fans this year but they'll more than make up for it with a better team in the future after this pick. Sure, I was kind of disappointed at first because I was excited to see Reggie play for us, but that kind of novelty wears off when the losses start racking up. Mario Williams gives us the best chance to succeed in this division.

Honestly, setting aside the hype for a second, why would you invest the #1 pick in the draft on a running back when Kubiak is your coach? Anyone can pound out 2000 yards under him. Instead, take the freak defensive end and let's go to war.

Superstar running backs are made over night. Superstar DE's can only be drafted at the top if you're lucky enough to get a chance at one. Thankfully, we didn't pass up our chance.

Apparently, nobody has the patience here to find out... most of the Bush fans need instant-gratification.

In the end, people should really get mad at supporting the Kubiak hiring (if you wanted Bush). I know most people here SUPPORTED that decision, but HE'S the one that made this call... he thinks RB's are a dime-a-dozen, and he knows that WINNING puts fans in the seats, and creates a buzz far more than the one "exciting" individual player.

Hell, he supported the Portis for Bailey trade because he knew he'd find another solid RB somewhere, but Bailey is a top 3 CB in this league.

In the end, this trade reeks of confidence in his system in being able to be solid enough on offense without Bush. He went for help on the other side... where no "system" is a fix for the dearth of talent on the defensive line.

You can't blame Barry for his team sucking. If we surround either Reggie or Mario with crap the team will suck. If Barry was on Dallas don't you think they would have won just as many Super Bowls?
