Im about 6'0" tall and 192 lbs..... Im not shamed to admit that Im starting to see a definite beer gut and the early stages of man t***. I would say Ideally I would want to weigh about 175lbs with some toning, but nothing like roids-r-us. Whats a good place to start? Exercise/Diet plans that work? Im not a big book reader on stuff like this because it puts me to sleep.
You will need a bit of both. Exercise with no diet control will give you no results, and diet control with no excercise is just as bad. Have a 6 month to 1 year plan in the works. When you start seeing results it will motivate you to hit the gym more and more. Its like the opposite of a vicious cycle.
I started Atkins in November and I've gone from 250 to 210. I haven't been below 220 since college 10 years ago. Atkins gets a bad wrap but the people who knock it assume that you are eating beef, bacon, steaks and sausage 3 times a day. You have to use common sense and eat lots of chicken and fish. I have a "cheat day" once every 2 or 3 weeks to keep me motivated. Atkins is pretty easy nowadays because there are so many low carb products on the market right now.....including beer. BTW, you're 6'0, 192 and you want to lose weight?
To me running is a great way to lose weight. I hated running in high school but decided I was going to try and stick to it. I run about 4.5 miles every few days and I have lost lots of wieght.
WOW, we are the same height and I outweigh you by almost 50 pounds. Time to lay off the Dr. Pepper and hit the gym.
the best way is to incorporate exercise as part of your everyday activity. dont just do it to shed some weight and then stop doing it. i used to just run a lot. but then when i started doing weights, i dropped about 10 kgs in about one month. it was as if the weight work started to click with cardio and i shed fat, and at the same time, i gained muscle definition. try doing 30 mins of exercise a day, alternate cardio and weights. for weights, do compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench presses. the type that exercises a lot of muscle groups. do cardio whenever you feel best, but the best time for your body to lose fat is first thing in the morning before breakfast. but still its better to pick a time you like to work out on rather than try it in the morning and feeling too lazy. do weights later in the day. also eat, dont starve yourself. you need nutrition.
wow...that is skinny man. I am 5'9 and used to weigh 140 about five years ago. Started lifting weights, playing basketball and didn't eat that much. Dropped down to 130 and couldn't understand why. I had thought working out was suppose to get you bigger. Anyways, the last two months I've been eating like crazy and working out pretty hardcore. Now I am up to 170 and am trying to gain 10 more pounds. Have some fat on me, but once I get up to 180, I'll start shaving the fat off. Losing weight is easy...gaining weight is a b****.
You don't need to overeat to gain weight. Drink 1 beer before you go to bed every night. Result is guaranteed in a month.
It works, and can have a dramatic impact on cholesterol levels, and even diabetes. I know. My cholesterol was 635 (not a misprint!), due to a inherited genetic condition. (thanks, Dad!) When my doctor got the first results back, from my first lipids test in many years, to his credit, he was extremely aggressive. He put me on medication (this was on a Friday), and had me tested again the following Monday to see if they were working. (they weren't. I went through several, until finding one that did, which my insurance company didn't want to pay for at the time... Lipitor) The other thing he did was tell me about Protein Power, an Atkins-like diet that hasn't gotten the same publicity. He said that he had heard about low-carb diets lowering lipids, that it was, "pretty far out there, but worth trying, in my opinion." So I did, and lost 20 lbs. I didn't know were there to lose. Most of the weight has stayed off, although I've been off the diet a few years. My cholesterol dropped dramatically, although we were still trying to find the right medication. Something to think about. By the way, a good friend who had been on insulin for many years was put on the same diet, by the same doctor. His insulin levels dropped to where he could stop the injections, and he lost at least 40lbs. He is well over 6 feet, and was much heavier (overweight is the term) than I was. Good luck!
I used to run around my lake (pretty big lake) 5 times a night. I noticed results in a month with good excercise and working out.
I'm in the same boat as you Drewdog. This week I just started working out again. My girlfriend is a Kinesiology major and had me reading some things from her text books. There really aren't any shortcuts. The only thing I didn't know was to create a fat differential. As long as you burn more fat in a day than you comsume, you'll lose weight. From what I've read, I'd stay away from Atkins unless you plan on doing that for life, and even then your poor arteries and decreased lifespan. Eesh. Nothing's going to get done without at least 30 mins of cardio a day, weight training and decreased caloric intake. Sad but true. Much like the get rich quick schemes.
Wow, thats a crazy number. My family also has a history of cholesterol. Both my grandparents died due to heart attacks caused by cholesterol. My dad has to take cholesterol meds too. In college my cholesterol reading came back around 200. Then through sheer excercise, and taking fiber related supplements (no meds though) I got my reading down to 140 about a year ago. I got it checked again a month ago and it was down to 130. The doctor advised me that my cholesterol level might be too low. They did some tests, and found really nothing wrong with my liver,etc.. but said I might need to cut the fiber supplements out.
If you have to be reading "nutrition facts" all the time, you're a slave of the labels. Tips from experience, when I don't do them, I gain weight: Excercise (sex, too) Eat less or smaller portions. Make fun of people who are WAYY too fat -- you can outrun them, which helps them lose weight, too. Don't sit for long periods of time at the office. I do not believe that OBESITY is hereditary. I believe LAZINESS to do exercise is.
