Wii as in We, but why? Revolution was a good name, and I think I'll always call it that. Make sure to click the link if you want to know their reasoning behind the name.
It sounds like they just made up a word so everyone in the world will be saying the same thing. The world is getting small. Interesting. I still want one.
Miguel, is that a Garden State reference? Oh, and does this mean that they will call their online service Nintendo Wii-fii?

I almost laughed out loud in the middle of class when I found out about this, although that was mostly because of the jokes about it ("I'm going to go play with my Wii"). I preferred the Revolution name as well. I'd like to use it still, but then again, Wii is so much easier to type. Oh well. The name isn't that big of a deal, and if nothing else, it will create some nice jokes in the future. Hehe...if someone told me a few years ago that we would have a Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii...
If Nintendo quit making consoles and just did video games like Sega then the world would be perfect. Mario on Playstation. Where it belongs.
I first saw it I'm like...whaaat?! But actually I like the name. And it fits nintendo's direction perfectly. Revolution was cool, but it was too generic. Wii though...it's catchy and different.
it doesn't matter, yeah Revolution was too generic. That doesn't stop the Rev(Wii) from being badass though
I hate the name. It's not so much the name itself, or the idea behind why they chose it or any of that. It's the simple fact that it's confusing when you first see it, in the sense that you're not sure how to pronounce it. I first saw this on an IGN message board and everyone had a different idea of how it should be read. Some even said "W 2", seeing the "ii" as roman numerals. And oh yeah, it's slang for taking a piss. Way to go Nintendo.
You know who is really going to like this name and waving the little wand controller around? Kids. But then again if it can burn a few more calories off their fat malnutritioned little bodies, wave away. Good idea Nintendo. If you didn't include something for all the older gamers like DLing old games, no one over the age of 13 would buy your console.
Sometimes it seems people forget what Console Resident Evil 4 came out on first. BTW, have you seen the first official screens of a Wii game, it's not for kids. Red Steel: http://www.cubed3.com/news/4902/
I hate the name, but Nintendo's trying to horn in on the "other" demographic, so a cool name (since when did Nintendo ever have a cool console name?) wouldn't matter. Besides consoles with cool sounding names usually flop. As for Nintendo targeting kiddy or older gamers, it's really up to the third parties. You'll get an occasional Metroid or 2nd party game every blue moon, but don't look for Nintendo's 1st party to do anything consistently mature. Which is unfortunate, because Nintendo's games is what sets the bars to other developers on what to develop. Another Wind Waker will probably seal their fate....
