Not that ding ding. I was at the beach last weekend (which is a thread in itself) and I kept my truck doors open to listen to some music. I wedged a hard plastic cup in the door "crevasse" to press on the button that keeps the ding ding ding - key in ignition alert from going off. Well my wife didn't know I did that and shut the door. When she did that the cup pressed in the metal of the door slightly and now it doesn't press on the button. With the door shut it still goes ding ding ding until I turn the key to all the way to the right. The guy at the oil change place told me I'm going to have to take the panel off to fix it because the metal is so thick there. I don't believe him. Is there a tool I can use to do this without taking all that off because I don't know how to do all of that. I swear I saw something on tv advertised for 19.99 that takes out dents, it might of came with a floating Dorf keychain, I don't remember.. Any ideas? Thanks.
hes right ....a suction cup tool is not going to pull that dent out because the door shell is double skinned you can either take to a body shop and have them take off the door trim panel and use tools to hammer the dent back out (it won't be pretty looking) or have them repair it properly from the outside (using body filler, which would be more expensive) you can also just take some duct tape to use as a gap filler so it will depress the button when you shut the door
bondo (except thats not exactly what shops use nowadays) ....it fills in the dents and sanded so that, after its painted, the metal looks smooth
OK thanks. Man it is barely pressed in. It seems like there is an easier way. It goes off when I turn the key all the way to the right so I can live with it...
maybe i'm missing something or i'm just slow. did you just say a plastic cup put a dent in metal? i just don't see how that is possible.
If it's barely pushed in....and not visible, why not just use bondo to fill the gap? For $19.99 you could have it filled, painted, and have enough bondo left over to go skeet shooting later.

If I knew how to take off the panel without messing things up, it seems like I could press it back out pretty easily.
not really ..the door trim panel isn't too complicated, although it can be time consuming ...if you are not careful, youll break all the tabs on the panel and it wont hold back in ....since the shell is double panled, you can't just "push it back out" ...youll have to dolly it with some metal tools
Isn't there a fuse in your fuse box that you can pull to get rid of that dinger? I've never pulled it, but I remember a friend of mine had some kind of problem similar to this and that's what he did.
I've took the panel off on my old Chevy Blazer once (window problems) and broke all the tabs. Just go w/ the bondo.
Why not just tape down the little button so it thinks the door is always closed. No more dinging, EVAR!
I say super glue a penny to it, heads-up. Say it's for luck if anyone ever sees it. If they give you any more backtalk, yell at them for being racist towards rednecks.
