I also considered this but i'm too worried about O'Neal being constantly injured. We have enough injury concerns. Not that i'm opposed to it obviously. However we can either Draft Alrdridge or Thomas to play PF-these guys could end up being better than O'Neal anyway, and a hell of alot cheaper Trade down + Swift with the Wolves for Garnett and their pick to grab Brandon Roy/Rodney Carney. Trade down with the Hawks for their pick and Josh Childress, draft Shelden Williams-i know its way too high for what will be 6th or 7th at the most, but he fills a need. Either way be become a younger, smarter, bigger, hopefully healthier club.
Even though I am not a big Redick fan, he won't be around in the second round. If he is still around when Denver picks, that's where he goes, the Nuggets need an outside shooter desperately.
Nobody trades the number 1 pick in the draft. This isn't football where you want to trade for multiple picks. I don't think you can just trade the pick for an estblished player unless salaries work out. Of course we would keep the pick and probably go with Aldridge or Morrison.
denver only have a mid-late 2nd pick and with whoever will be left they might be drafting an aussie (brad newley) who they've shown interest in.
i see us trading the pick b/c :: Morrison plays TMac's position, Tyrus Thomas doesn't have any range on his shot, Aldridge plays soft too often, Gay almost plays the same position as Mac and has the same disease [pun] as Aldridge - not caring, and Bargnani is too much of a wildcard. the surest player out of that group is Morrison, who we don't even need. Aldridge, Thomas, and Gay could be great additions, except that they're not polished/well-rounded/consistent enough to help us out. but they have a ton of upside. Roy would be the ideal candidate for us b/c he fits our biggest need - a do-it-all 2. a 2 that can be the 3rd option/create his own shot, can bring up the ball, is strong defensively, is smart, isn't short, etc. he has no flaws. but he's not WOW enough to take him at #1. that's why you either draft Morrison or Thomas, whoever has more trade value, and trade down for Roy. i agree with you that teams don't trade the #1 overall NBA pick, but Thomas, Aldridge, Gay, and Morrison would only bring more of the same to the Rockets.
Trade the pick for possibly a 6-10 pick and possibly another number 1 or an established player. We need talent period, and I'd rather put together some good pieces than put all my eggs in one basket this year. No clear cut badasses in a weak draft.
Two number one picks are risky because that player gets a 4 year contract. I am not sure how many four year contracts you would want to pass out on this group of players.
Trade the pick + some scrub for Kevin Garnett... T-Mac and Yao don't have time to let one of these questionable players develop to their full potential.
Looks like the majority around here would take Aldridge or Morrison. I am always impressed by the intelligence of the clutchfans population. Though most of the posters here who voted for these two have been silent about their reasoning it's obvious to me that these two are the safest picks in this draft e.i. they will both be effective NBA players for some time and have the potential to be stars. I voted for Aldridge over Morrison mainly because we have a pretty good SF already and what we don't have is athleticism (neither does Morrison). ClutchFans Rock!
I thought Morrison was going back to school for another year? If not, I'd take Larry Bird II. But he has to keep the mustache. Put it in the contract.
We only have very tiny probability to get the 1# pick. However, if the dream comes true, it's still impossible to trade it for JO. Does anybody think about the CAP? So picking a rookie is a practical thought.
I'm not excited about any of these guys. I guess if I had to choose between all of them I would select Brandon Roy. Morrison = Keith Van Horn Aldridge = Eddie Griffin Thomas = Stromile Swift Gay = Robert Horry Bargnani = Don't know
We need a shooter and who knows who'll be left...I'd be happy with Morrison if he's around or even JJ...
If we did land the number 1 pick I would trade it away like others have suggested. There are many needs on this team and we can get some of them later on (in the draft).
I'd probably trade it too. Maybe the #1 and Stro plus filler (Sura) for Channing Frye, David Lee, and Jamal Crawford. That would greatly help our depth and talent deficiencies. Would NY bite? Who knows where Isiah is concerned. Or maybe a "reverse curse" 1 for 3 deal so we can finally exorcise the demons of the EG deal. The #1 to the Hornets for J.R. Smith and both their #1 picks (12 and 15 overall). The Hornets can take Tyrus Thomas which would fill a need and help their marketing if they really are committed to NOLA.
if you don't mind me asking, okierock, what do you define as athleticism? or my favorite word, 'upside' - what is that? please consider yourself my guinea pig [as well as anyone that reads this post]. does JJ Reddick have any athleticism? Morrison doesn't have any - you just said so. Steve Novak? Mike Gansey? Brad Buckman? Kevin Pittsnogle? now answer the next couple. does Brandon Roy strike you as athletic? Rudy Gay? Aldridge? Ager? Denham Brown? Rashad Anderson? Foye? Mensah-Bonsu? Lowry? Tyrus Thomas? Taquan Dean? Williams? (any of them) did you notice anything? i've noticed over the past couple weeks that when a player is white, regardless of which position he plays, he is deemed 'unathletic'/'not athletic.' the black players don't get this same criticism. i'm not trying to get on my soapbox or anything, but i'm just asking everyone to stop and see if they have ever done rated players athleticism subconsciously based on race. and no, i'm not a newbie/rookie. i've been on this board since 2002 as Biggienaz786, but I didn't put any money in the tipjar ever, and so here i am, on the BBS as a [cheap] 'Rookie.' so don't flame me. or else.
Well none of the white players you mentioned are athletic. That's just a fact. If you compare them to the rest of the draft class, they'd be average or below-average at best depending on their position (guards being much more athletic across the board while centers being much more deficient relatively). I don't see it being a stereotyping situation, but rather a practical matter. I mean we don't hear any criticisms on Josh McRobert's athleticism because he geniunely is athletic, with pretty good hops and explosiveness. But for a guy like Redick whose lateral mobility is subpar at best, I think this athleticism or lack of it is a concern.
but do you see how every one of the players in the second set [the black players] was 'athletic?' it doesn't matter if they're from the lottery, late 1st round, 2nd round, late 2nd round - the perception is that b/c they're black, they're athletic, and that presumption just works opposite for white players. that was the point.
