Take a look at some of these grades. Somehow, we got a B- after our draft and the amazing things we did. They criticize our trade for Morris, but of course we gave them Philly's pick (which will always be bottom 5) for a player that would've been a lottery pick a year ago, a guaranteed first rounder next year, and a very good talent.

But that's not what is ridiculous. After the great move the Clippers made, they gave them an F.

This trade will definitely reap immediate rewards. The Clippers will be much more competitive next year. However the run of stockpiling talent is now officially over. Which was basically the best thing the Clippers had going for themselves. It's not like the Clippers weren't going to sell tickets next year without Brand. In fact they may have sold more. They'll still be exciting, even with Brand, but adding Chandler to this team would have made them the official circus of the NBA. This team will be very good next season, they probably won't make the playoffs, but they should come close. This trade was a gutless move. Brand was a mistake at the first pick and in a draft with far less talent than this. Yes Brand is established. But why not roll the dice on a true franchise talent? The Clippers had their choice of any player the draft sans Kwame Brown and could have chosen a player that would eventually put the team into the elite teams in the league. Wait, these are the Clippers, this team will disintegrate before it ever comes close to a Championship anyway. The team sold it's second round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers. Buyer (fans) beware.

This is the most ridiculous draft report I've ever seen. They act like they know Chandler will be a franchise player... heck, he's 7'1, 230 and he had a hard time benching 185 twice. He doesn't have a good perimeter game, and he's too skinny to play inside. Sure, he can become a franchise player, but the Clips have enough young talent as it is. Miles, Richardson, Maggette, Dooling, any of those names ring a bell? They traded a risky high school kid who could be a bust for an established 20 point, 10 rebound guy who fills their main need (someone tough on the interior) and is a young guy who can grow with the team. To give them that low of a trade is a joke.

One thing -- If I'm not mistaken, the pick the Rockets gave up for Terence Morris is not from Philly. We traded Turkcan to Philly and they sent us the first round pick they got from Detroit in the Theo Ratliff-Jerry Stackhouse deal. I don't "believe" it has to be Detroit's pick .... can be any first rounder I assume, but it's not going to be Philly's pick.

I think what we are seeing with these grades is a reflection of the same reasons both Eddie and TRock fell lower than some predicted.
Obviously alot of people, not just the media, but the talent evaluators and management of other NBA teams, had question marks about both our picks.
There is nothing we can do about it and, for that reason alone, we should forget about it.
Besides, it's not how you start but how you finish. As long as we get back into the championship rotation, we have the last laugh.

I just want to know why---with the brilliance that Miles showed, they would want to cram him onto the bench.

It's not like he's Tim Thomas and can play 3 positions on the floor. Right now he's good right where he was--PF.

This could upset chemistry---and robs them of a chance to replace Olowakandi with Yao Ming next season.

    I don't think it's a bad trade for them---I just understand nbadraft.net's reasoning.

I'm telling you, the Clippers are going to self implode.

The Cat, Chandler was up to 255 by draft night, and I think he's going to be a great player, but I can see why the Clippers traded for Brand.

Back to the Clippers, they stockpiled TOO much talent too quickly. There is such a logjam at some positions on their team now, namely small forward, that it's ridiculous.

Take into account that almost all of their players contracts end at the same time, and you can see the room for concern.

Let's say hypothetically they keep Dooling, Odom, Miles, and Brand. That's a nice lineup, but that team won't ever be anything more than 1st or 2nd round fodder.

Maggette, Richardson, and others are gonna go to greener pastures. Count on it.

    Rich,

I wouldn't expect that. Assuming Clutch is correct, the Pistons have the option of submitting any pick to us. I'm sure they are owed picks by some of the better teams in the league, and if they aren't, they'll just quickly swap a role player for pick 28 or something to repay the debt. Trust me, they won't be giving any lottery type picks away.

nbadraft.net is the worst evaluator of NBA talent on the Internet, surpassing even Bill Walton.

His profiles of high schoolers and college players are alright, but his NBA ratings of those players are over inflated, he has no clue how anyone's game will translate to the NBA level, and his mock draft is just plain horrible. I'd bet 95% of the mocks here @ ClutchCity outperformed his.

Normally, I'd say take whatever he says with a grain of salt, but that'd be an understatement.

I actually think this deal could end up being beneficial to both teams in the long run. Elton Brand is exactly what the Clips need, a hard nosed player that can beef up their frontline. Also, I dont agree with the stuff about Miles or Odom being positionally blocked. Even though Lamar Odom is a versatile point forward type, I dont think he will have any problem playing the SG position. It doesnt really matter if the guy isnt a natural scorer, playing Odom and Miles together at the 2-3 positions with Brand up front will work. I find it amusing how so many nay-sayers I talk to feel that the Clipps will have to deal Odom or Miles b/c they supposedly cant player together b/c of supposed pre-defined roles. Odom, Miles, Brand is going to be one damn good trio.

On the Chicago end.... I dont think this was as bad a deal for them as some make it out to be. I am not sold on Chandler but many feel he possesses tremendous upside of KG proportions. If they are right in what they are saying, and Chandler becomes even near that good, then the Bulls will have gotten a steal. Elton Brand is going to be nothing more than serviceable (getting 20-10 on a trashy team means little to me, I take many other items into account over numbers), and if you strongly feel someone you trade him for will be a franchise player type then go for it.

The big plus in this deal tho is that it opened up the 4 position for Marcus Fizer. Tacoma and HP are going to be eating a lot of crow next yr when they get to see Fizer start and dominate from the 4 position. That talk of KT being better than Fizer will be thought of as laughable after next season.

Yeah, the mock drafts are definitely randomized, as the players switch around in order all the time. I don't know how Brand will perform in the west with Duncan, Webber(if he signs), KG, Wallace, Nowitzki, Malone, Mcdyess, and Jamison. Plus he has to give Odom his shots. Miles and Maggette need shots too. Brand can't put up as many shots as he did in Chicago. I still say it was a lot better trade for LA though.

I hear they have some feller named Odom. Not very versatile, but I hear he's an OK player.

Now let's imagine the unthinkable. The Clippers draft Francis instead of Odom, Alexander instead of Dooling. Francis-Alexander-Miles-Brand-Kandi. Richardson and Maggette off the bench. That's enough to scare me.

Brand was one of, if not the best offensive rebounders last year. That's good, because there will be some offensive rebounds to go around.

Clutch, you're right. Detroit will pay the pick. There is no protection, it's at Detroit's option and can be any team's pick. They have till 2004 to pay. I'm sure it'll be a very bad first rounder.

Clutch: I'm with you here. Somewhere I read tht the pick conveyed was Detroit's pick which, as I recall, was not even lottery-protected. They don't seem to be improving particularly.

I'm excited to have TRock, but I will be leveling a more critical eye if it ends up being a lottery pick...
