I think after the Marbury trade, the Nets will have PLENTY of caproom. They will probably use the #2 to get the hometown guy, Curry. That means they'll also be looking for a SF to replace Van Horn, SG and maybe insurance at the PG. Therefore, I think that may open the flood gates for a "#13 and #18 and veteran for #7" deal. The nets could definitely use multiple picks, with or without marbury, and they could get a guy like Forte or Radmanovic if they trade down, along with a Richard Jefferson, so it would make sense. ------------------ The fun just never ends for them! I think after the Marbury trade, the Nets will have PLENTY of caproom. They will probably use the #2 to get the hometown guy,Curry. Curry is from Chicago. I agree that a Marbury trade would help the Rockets, but for a different reason. I think it would almost guarentee that Joe Johnson or Radmanovic is there at 13. A NJ trade and Atlanta possibly passing on Battier would shake things up. We'd still end up with the same 10 or 11 guys at the top of the draft, but it would cause one or two small forwards to slide to the lower part of the lottery, where some of the teams picking don't really need small forwards. Those teams might pass on the sliding small forwards and let them drop to Houston's pick. Here's the logic. 1.Washington is suppose to be leaning to Kwame Brown. 2. Whether the Clips or Nets have this pick, it should be Curry. 3. It's now rumored that Atlanta would pass on Battier and take whoever is left between Brown and Chandler. This would cause Battier to slide and would be beneficial for us because it will make a top tier SF (Battier or White) available for a team that otherwise would have taken Johnson. 4. Chicago would have to take Griffin at #4. 5. GS is said to be strongly leaning toward Gasol. 6. Vancouver could go a couple of ways. They could take a flyer on Diop or they could draft Richardson to help sell tickets in their new town. With SAR, they're not really candidates for taking a SF. Our best case would be them taking Diop here. 7. NJ - If they did the Marbury trade, then their backcourt is a major weakness. If the Grizz take Diop, then NJ would have to take Richardson. If Richardson is gone, there's no backcourt player worth taking this high, so they'd take Rodney White. 8. Cleveland would be looking at either White or Battier still on the board and they couldn't pass on either. If they're both there, they take White. Otherwise they happily settle for Battier. 9. Depending on what Vancouver and Cleveland did, Detroit should have either Battier or Diop available here. The other hot rumor is that Detroit likes Murphy at 9. All of those help the Rockets. There is a danger that Detroit would take Radmanovic here. 10. Both Johnson and Radmanovic should be left for Boston. The other possibilities are Murphy and Bradley. If they pick Murphy, then we're guarenteed to get either Johnson or Radmonovic. 11. This is the Kedrick Brown pick. It's the popular rumor and I've gotta believe that there's a reason that the NBA suddenly invited him to the draft. 12. Seattle needs to go big. They've already got Rashard Lewis and Desmond Mason, so a swing player isn't a high priority to them (i.e. I don't think that they'll take Johnson. 13. Houston - One or both of Radmanovic and Johnson could easily be there. ------------------
great post aelliot. The only thing that worries me is if the Celtics take Johnson over Murphy, but Murphy being the local boy might help. ------------------ The Smurfs were Communists
tpl, Yeah, but Boston is so soft inside, that I've got to believe that they're going to go big. Especially if they're planning on using #11 on Kedrick Brown. If they do, then this is their only shot at getting an inside player. They're suppose to be set on taking Parker with their third pick. Also, if both Johnson and Radmanovic are on the board, then we'd still be ok even if Boston picked one of those two. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited June 26, 2001).]
aelliot, u contradict urself when u say that from this trade New Jersey has a glaring backcourt weakness...joe johnson plays in the backcourt and assuming that richardson is picked by the grizz than they would most likely take johnson based on ur theory ------------------
u contradict urself when u say that from this trade New Jersey has a glaring backcourt weakness...joe johnson plays in the backcourt and assuming that richardson is picked by the grizz than they would most likely take johnson based on ur theory I don't think so. Richardson and White are both top tier guys. They're rated pretty close together, so if it's a choice between them they go with Richardson. Johnson is more of a 2nd tier guy. If it's a choice between White and Johnson, then they'll go with the top tier guy rather than draft for need. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited June 26, 2001).]
What is this Marbury trade? He's going to the Clips? Is this a done deal? Who's involved? ------------------
Just another draft day rumor...although it does sound a little more likely than some. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Gasol is going #3 so that will mess everything up. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
Gasol is going #3 so that will mess everything up. Gasol at #3 is ok. That would just mean that Chandler goes #5 to GS. The pivotal pick looks like #6. If Vancouver takes Diop, then we're almost assured of having Johnson or Radmanovic available at #13. If the Grizz take Richardson, then it's a little more iffy. ------------------
My line of thinking is I REALLY hope Kedrick Brown and Troy Murphy going before us is the real deal... if those two really do go in the top 12, I think the only way we'll be disappointed is if the Rockets themselves disappoint us. Here's to hoping for Radmanovic or Joe Johnson at #13. Loved the analysis by the way aelliott. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Clutch, Do you know if the Rockets are still high on Shane Battier? He's the one player in this draft I'd give anything to have. (well reasonable of course) The reason I ask this is that we never worked him out, and Doc Rocket, the Chronicle, and other sources never mentioned anything about the Rockets wanting to trade up for him. Doc said at the beginning that we were very interested, but nothing has been said since. Should he drop to pick 7 or further, do you believe he would be a bigger attraction to us than Rodney White or Joe Johnson? ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. My line of thinking is I REALLY hope Kedrick Brown and Troy Murphy going before us is the real deal... Clutch, I agree. I think that Brown is a given at #11. I'm hoping that Boston has to go big and pick Murphy at 11. After looking at it some more, the two keys for us seem to be #6 and #9. We either need Vancouver to not select Richarson at #6 and let him fall to NJ at #7 or we need Detroit to draft a center at #9. If either of those happen they I believe that we'll get either Johnson or Radmanovic. If they both happen, then well...we'd have some choices to make. The other danger for us is Seattle taking Radmanovic at #12. It makes no sense, since they have Rashard Lewis, but they are said to really like Radmanovic. If they don't think that any of the centers are worth the #12, then they just might take the best player available (Radmanovic). ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited June 27, 2001).]
If that is the case, would Seattle do a #18 & #23 for Radman? ------------------ 15 years later... Zoom
From what I understand is they are very interested in Battier, though you're right -- they didn't work him out (that I'm aware of). One rumor going around this morning (and it's just a rumor - I have no idea if it's valid or not) is that the Rockets and Grizzlies are back talking about the 6th pick. Grizz want all 3 Rockets picks while Houston wants to keep one of them... the target is said to be Battier. Anyhow, that was just a rumor -- and there are lots of them this morning. Battier, in my opinion, is a terrific fit (though he's not an intimidator in the paint by any means). Chemistry-wise and could be a terrific leader.. does all things "well". ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET

If we lose out on Battier because CD wants to keep the 23rd pick, it would be the most disappointing scenario I can imagine. The rumor, however-- is it something you found on the web, or did you just hear it over the phone? Just curious if you knew of a website that might be giving updates. ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. Atlanta is trading #3 to Van/Mem for SAR, other players andpicks are involved but Van/Mem is holding onto the #6, possibly for a trade. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/2001/draft/news/2001/06/26 /hawks_grizzlies_trade_ap/ ------------------ [This message has been edited by Derrick Chievous (edited June 27, 2001).]
An individual who has given me info in the past sent me that asking me if I had heard it. I hadn't... so that's why it's strictly a rumor. The Rockets were supposedly going to part with all 3 before to get the 6th pick, so don't know why there would be a problem now (if this is accurate). ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Clutch, Rudy has emphasized the need for a shotblocker repeatedly in interviews... do you think that could be the holdup in dealing 3 picks? Also, if I'm correct, Vancouver also has the 33rd pick in round 2. Could you see them giving us that pick for someone like Walt, Carlos, etc.? Perhaps we could deal them all 3 picks and a role player for picks 6 and 33, and pick a shotblocker such as Ken Johnson at 33. ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. Clutch, have you and your wife already decided upon your new child's name? Shane has quite the ring(boy or girl), and you could always have a great story years from now. ------------------ calling powdered toast man girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?!
