McClain has said that Mathis was an immature knucklehead under the old regime. I am not aware that he has specifically said Kyle was having problems (if he has I'd like to see/hear it). Though, I have heard him insinuate Kyle will have his work cut out for him. And mind you, despite the cries of nepotism, Shanahan is a highly regarded young coach.

I know some guys at HPF.com have been spewing the Kyle Shanahan stuff, but there is no evidence of that. What we do know is that McClain (repeatedly) and Manfull have reported on Mathis' immaturity under the old regime. I emailed McClain about this hoping he would make a definitive statement on Mathis leaving no room as to what he really means. If you just heard the online blurb a week ago, I can see how you would think this is about Kyle. But McClain's comments since the end of the season point toward's Mathis.

Funny, so many Mathis fans jump on the young Shanahan immediately and disregard the earlier questions about Mathis's maturity (publicly referenced examples being practices and at the Pro Bowl). More and more it is seeming as if more than "hamstring problems" were keeping Mathis from the 3 wide lineup.

I was estatic when the Texans drafted Mathis and am big fan of him as a player. But my fandom is weakening the more I hear about his bonehead-ery. This motorcycle thing is no surprise.

Yeah this guy is a piece of **** he owes my buddy $350 for landscaping work which by the way was a huge discount in the first place.

Some of us critizing Mathis may be guilty of the same "thing" they accuse J for. If it is not in Jerome's contract to avoid Bicycles, who are we to tell another man in such manner how to conduct their lives?

It is likely that some here still smoke, drink alcohol reckless, drink and drive, engage in intercourse with multiple partners without condom, and many more dangerous things we do that affect our lives or others around us.

Just because you do not have a contract does not make your situation and mine more or less. The beauty of this country we live in is the great opportunity to choose whichever way we want to live our lives. If it is not in his contract to avoid certain things, let him do as he sees fit. His individual right to pursue happiness is greater than whatever he means to us as a player of our team.

I don't think anyone one of us are mad that he may have a clause in his contract. We saw 2 very promising athletes throw away the first 4 years of their career, there is still a good chance they may never play fulltime again.

Love them or hate them, motorcycles are pretty darn dangerous. The guy went to the pro-bowl his rookie year, he can be a star, it would be disappointing if he threw it away IMO.

I completely agree with the last paragraph.

I just find it hard to swallow when we [fans] try to tell our stars how to live their lives. They and their advicers should be responsible just as we are responsible for whatever choice we make.

I had a close relative who loved riding his motorcycle. Despite he first major accident and our advice, he still continued to ride his bike. He only slowed down last year when his friend died from motorcycle accident. Habbits and things we are very passionate are very hard to break [whether you are a star or not] - we just have to be a little more understanding of other people's issues.
