Now that the Grizz have unloaded their best player and have two picks in the top six, I do not understand their motive for doing so unless it is b/c they are working on another deal. Why would a team moving to a new city want to put their new fans through the same season-long training camps that Vancouver has had to endure. How does adding two more clueless rookies while subtracting the only recognizable player on their team improve them at all. Assuming they select one of the high school seniors at 3 and Richardson at 6, they would create a log jam at two positions. Reeves makes too much money to sit on the bench and Stromile Swift will only get better with playing time, so adding another project like Chandler would mean too few minutes for young players who need to be on the court to improve. I have also heard that Gasol will be picked here, but that would create another problem. If he or any other SF is taken, and Richardson goes at 6 as everyone seems to agree, that means Dickerson, Richardson, and Gasol are again battling each other for PT. Also, why would a team desperate for a turnaround continue adding more young players who won't help at all for 2 or 3 more years. I don't think Gasol in his prime will offer the all-around game Reef has at SF, and he is just entering his prime, while Gasol is a 21-year-old making the adjustment to a new league, style of play, and country. All of this seems to point to more moves on the way for the Grizz. One reason for the trade could be a deal in the works with the Wizards for #1. If Jordan doesn't think Bibby and #6 is worth the #1, maybe he would reconsider for Bibby and #3. In this scenario, the Grizz could offset the loss of their franchise player by having the chance to draft another potential cornerstone, like Brown or Griffin, w/o having to worry about who might get picked ahead of them, and still add Richardson, who they have wanted all along. ------------------
You make some valid points I like your thinking. Who's to say that they might not be picking Gasol at #3 for the Rockets? Couldn't they possible be interested in the Rockets top two picks and a pleyer or two? Especially if Houston and Orlando can swap some picks and Houston ends up with the 13 and 15? Just me thinking out loud again. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
SAR was on shakey ground with the team, his agent said that he might still want out. The Grizz got a chance to pick up a nice PF/C in Wright who went to Memphis U. They also picked up a solid backup PG for Bibby in Knight. Then they got the #3 pick which could be a superstar. I thought it was a great deal, it's not like they were suddenly going to start winning with SAR, might as well shake things up. Now they can pick up Curry at 3, and maybe White or Gasol at 6 to replace SAR. The Grizz had to take this deal b/c it probably wouldn't be available during the regular season when SAR might have requested to be traded again... ------------------ This post contains no smilies, you must judge my seriousness on your own... Take notes fellas...
Rumors are they will pick up Gasol with the #3 to replace SAR at SF. Richardson looks like a likely candidate at #6 to play SG and replace Dickerson. He could play the SF spot as well. Shareef had told the Grizz that he wanted a trade last year. The move to a US location put the rumblings to rest for a little bit. But Memphis isn't much better and the Grizz probably knew that Shareef would be demanding a trade sometime anyway. Milos had an interesting scenario with the #3/#6 pick and Bibby. I think that would be a great deal for both teams. ------------------
If the Grizzlies acquire the 3rd pick from Atlanta, they will select Pau Gasol. If that scenario occurs, the Rockets are supposed to be trying to swap their picks for the sixth pick and select Shane Battier. Vancouver wants all three of the Rockets picks; however, as of right now, the Rockets only want to give up the 13th and 23rd picks. The fun has only just begun... ------------------ Don't think....just throw. Don't think....just throw.
HMmm......Pops, can you give us just a bit more ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
I would definitely trade the #13, #18, & #23 for the #6 if Battier is available. What would even be better is if we could be released from our obligation for future draft choices to the Grizzlies. ------------------

Why would they (or anyone) want so many rookies? Especially mid to late first rounders who won't make any kind of impact. ------------------
A. Sounds good. Now lets hope the picks are there for Vancover so they will pull the trigger on the #6 B. On another note. Having both Curry and Battier gone by the time Chicago pick gives us an even better opportunity. I'm an hour away from leaving work, supposed to have left two days ago. I will miss your Draft Chat tonight. Cheers. Have faith in CD, I'm sure he is doing everything but pulling a 7 footer out of a rabbit's hat, to get a solid leap up. ------------------
If we get the #6 pick from Griz, and Battier is available, would take him in a minute vs. White or JJ. Despite all the "negative" talk re. his potential as a pro, I think he'll be fabulous and will step right into a starting position wherever he goes and more than hold his own from the getgo.
Has a nice RING to it??? The Lakers just won a ring, what do they have to do with the #6? Oh wait, so did Battier. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Essnetially, this would mean that the Grizz traded Reef and Bibby for the number 1 pick (plus any crappy extras). That sounds pretty steep to me. ------------------ I hope, when they die, cartoon characters have to answer for their sins.
Vancouver will definately trade #6 with Detroit's #9. They are determined to have that #1 pick next year when they host the Draft in Memphis. No way they trade it to Houston, unless we make them an incredible offer!! ------------------
They are definitely going to try and trade with Detroit I think but to what avails I haven't the least of clues. The Pistons punked them in the first place by refuting that deal that would've given them a first rounder this year, and I think the Pistons would rather hang on to the 9 pick and get that Memphis pick next year on top of it. Basically the Pistons get rewarded for being aholes, and I believe a number of the guys they had their eyes on will still be around at 9. ------------------
From everything that I've heard, next year's draft won't be near as deep. If this is the case then Vancouver probably won't be as screwed as we think in giving up their pick. We owe them one and with as many top picks as they've had in the past few years they'll still be young. Sooner or later they'll have to let these players develop and see whta they've got. ------------------
I mentioned this in another thread, but I would give up all 3 picks to Van if they will throw in their #33 pick and possibly the #48. I would love Battier. A nucleus of Franchise-Cat-Battier, I like it! At #33 we could get Ken Johnson. Rumors here in Columbus are Golden State witht he second pick in the second round may nab him. My only thought on the #48 is it's a free pick. No guaranteed money and there still is a chance Tmo may fall all the way there. I know it may be strange to draft 2 SFs (to go along with Langhi) but take the best availalble.
I don't see why the Grizz couldn't use one of our picks (#18 + 2nd) to trade for whomever has the #18 in next years draft to satisfy the Detroit pick. Why give Detroit more than you have to in this year's robust draft when next year might not be as good (esp. when it appears that Detroit stabbed them this year!). Vanc would have the #3 & #13 to play with and relieve next year's debt. ------------------
Next year it has to be Vancouver's pick. ------------------ " If all babies are cute, why are there so many ugly people?"
