Great find, Mark. I wonder if this is a case of vindictiveness over substane, which we have seen so often from this administration.
\ yes, some of it could have been googled. however, they gave her a polygraph, she flunked, and she confessed. 'nuff said.
dealer's choice: "CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano re-affirmed on Monday that an agency official had been fired after acknowledging “unauthorized contacts with the media and discussion of classified information” with journalists. Gimigliano and other administration spokespersons said they were prohibited by law from disclosing the identity of the person who was fired. But government officials familiar with the matter confirmed to NEWSWEEK that McCarthy, a 20-year veteran of the CIA’s intelligence—or analytical— branch, was the individual in question. "
She may have well done it. As far as the confession goes, though, it isn't that cut and dry. She has categorically denied disclosing any classified information.
has she? the only info we have in that regard come from her "friend" rand beers, the same rand beers who resigned from the NSC to joing the campaign of John Kerry as senior national security advisor. the same rand beers who had another old friend on the nsc staff back in the day, Joseph C. Wilson IV. Kerry, Wilson, Berger...it just keeps getting weirder...
good luck with that Is that “back to Clinton” or “back to Bush”? Seems Jr is the one who feels he doesn't have to adhere to the law. What with illegal renditions, wiretaps, torture, leaking classified information, outing a CIA operative and on and on and on... So back to my question Why would a lifer in the CIA, about to retire, risk everything and chance losing what she’s worked for all her life? [edit] btw I do like the way this guy draws women though.
Personally, I think Libby is behind the CIA leak as well. Of course, we do not know for sure if the what was leaked was actually classified or not, do we? or what was leaked had not been leaked before? Or ...
she has acknowledged “unauthorized contacts with the media and discussion of classified information” with journalists.
this seems to be backfiring on the republicans, looks like retribution on the part of the bush admin for her support of kerry.
Yeah, I have unpure thoughts about women who are not my wife. We appear to be on the margins here. She says that she was not the leak for the rendtition + secret prison story and so does the government. And we know certainly can say that the Bush Admin awards people who leak classified info that supports their politics versus punishing the others. Any bets that she is talking to lawyers as we speak about bring a civil suit for an "unjust firing"?
bring it on. beers says she said she wasn't the leak. we haven't heard directly from her, but we do know she acknowledged passing secrets to journalists, and flunked her polygraph.
You really should wipe the drool from your mouth. -- Dismissed CIA Officer Denies Leak Role Official Says Agency Is Not Asserting She Told of Secret Prisons A lawyer representing fired CIA officer Mary O. McCarthy said yesterday that his client did not leak any classified information and did not disclose to Washington Post reporter Dana Priest the existence of secret CIA-run prisons in Eastern Europe for suspected terrorists. The statement by Ty Cobb, a lawyer in the Washington office of Hogan & Hartson who said he was speaking for McCarthy, came on the same day that a senior intelligence official said the agency is not asserting that McCarthy was a key source of Priest's award-winning articles last year disclosing the agency's secret prisons. McCarthy was fired because the CIA concluded that she had undisclosed contacts with journalists, including Priest, in violation of a security agreement. That does not mean she revealed the existence of the prisons to Priest, Cobb said. Cobb said that McCarthy, who worked in the CIA inspector general's office, "did not have access to the information she is accused of leaking," namely the classified information about any secret detention centers in Europe. Having unreported media contacts is not unheard of at the CIA but is a violation of the agency's rules. Though McCarthy acknowledged having contact with reporters, a senior intelligence official confirmed yesterday that she is not believed to have played a central role in The Post's reporting on the secret prisons. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity, citing personnel matters. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/04/24/AR2006042401601_pf.html
The larger story here is that there are rogue elements in the CIA that are trying to subvert the policies of a duly elected President. They are trying to create the functional equivalent of a palace coup. If they dedicated as much energy to the War on Terror as they do to the War on Bush, they might actually do some good.
