That site is a brilliant read!!! Thanks Zac D for starting this thread. You've reminded me of one of my earlier goals which is to take a year off and live in Japan through teaching English...I did some research on JET and Nova and I was keen to proceed. Then I got concerned about my "light CV" so I put Japan on hold for now. Funny enough I've recently started in a new job in a company which is 75% owned by a Japanese multi-national...a year from now I'll see how I go.
A good friend of mine went over to Japan to teach english in a small village several years ago and loved it. I'm not sure of the towns name but I can find out if you want it.
Yeah. I have officially wasted a good 2-3 hours when I already called in sick today in order to take care of a bunch of crap that I've been neglecting for a good 1-2 months. And its going on 6:30. My girlfriend is gonna give me one of those unsatisfactory grunts I get from time to time when I've been lazy as all hell. Then again, she is Japanese, so maybe she'll buy my excuse of studying American experiences in Japan. Somehow, I doubt it.
If you've ever watched any japanese p*rn, you'd know that it's not only legal but practically required and happens every day.
If you’re going to Japan, you must realize that racism and anti-foreigner sentiment will be strong in some places...in fact, in any foreign country there will be such feelings--so be careful and you will be fine. I've been to many foreign countries and have enjoyed seeing the world. As long as you try to learn and respect the local cultures of countries that you are in, the native people will in turn be more understanding towards you as a foreigner. The one thing is that Anti-American sentiment is at an all time high in the world right now, so try not to be the typical "Ugly American" while overseas.
So true, it seems like as soon as anyone finds out you are an American or better yet a Texan they want to talk Foreign Policy with you. And just because you are from Texas you are best friends with Bush in their mind. I would usually just try to change the subject. Arguing about foreign policy if you agree with it or not can just be tiring sometimes. If the conversation is in broken English it is even worse.
For what its worth a friend of mine who's a white women in her late teens just spent a year in Japan and she loved it. Of course she was there training for Judo. I've only spent a few days in Japan on two separate trips both to Tokyo. It was interesting but not someplace I would want to spend a long time at.
