I can't belong to a religion that would have me as a member.

Is there a defined religion in which you believe in some type of higher power (though not sure what), but you are disgusted with organized religion? For the longest time I've said I was agnostic, because I think that is the closest to my beliefs, but not entirely accurate. The absolutes in most religions are what I can't get past.

The only absolute in every religion is you are gonna die. Soon! Maybe you will be reborn as Yao Ming's cousin's uncle.

Another couple to be considered: Taoist, Pagan and Christian/Other. There are quite a few who might consider themselves outside of Protestant or Catholic, but not necessarily Christian - Unitarian, Quaker, for example.

    Just thought I'd add. :)

Myself, I would add the category of Poly-Religist - someone who prescribes to beliefs from a range of religions and counts none as his/her primary. That would likely be me.

If your primary beliefs are Christian, you sound like a Unitarian or a Quaker.

I'm not Buddhist. That's just one of the spirtitual practices I admire and follow. I like quite a few of them, actually. :)

That really depends on who you ask. Different theologians and scholars have differing opinions about Confucianism, Taoism and Shintoism in eastern thought. Most recognize the moral principles set down in Confucianism as more philosophy than overt religion, but that doesn't necessarily diminish its impact or cause it to fall outside the boundries of traditional religious practice.

It really just depends on who is writing the definition.
