Piston president Joe Dumars has invited Brendan Haywood back for a second workout, leading many to believe that he's become Detroit's top target. While Detroit is in need of a center, grabbing Haywood at No. 9 would be somewhat of a reach, especially when you consider Loren Woods has moved ahead of Haywood on most draft lists. It is unlikely Detroit would move the pick unless Gasol remains available, in which case Houston is expected to offer two of its three first-rounders in order to move ahead of Boston. http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/feature/0,1518,3977009_54,00.html ------------------
Good find. Who can we get at #9? I think to around the 6-8 is better. I really want Joe Johnson to slide to Houston but its gonna be hard to see NJ and Cleveland pass him up unless Diop or Chandler slides. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Francis3- Actually as the days pass, I think that the chance of J.J. falling to us is getting better. If we move up to 9, I believe that we will most likely have the oppurtunity to pick Johnson. Take a look at my mock draft, I see a run on a big men late in the lottery that could push J.J. to us. Of course the Wizards can really throw a monkey wrinch into the draft if they select Rodney White at number 1, which some draft experts are predicting. http://www.clutchcity.net/mockdraft.cfm?xMockID=819 ------------------
On bskball.com, there are rumors that the Celts will be taking Troy Murphy with one of their two picks. If they do this then someone decent should slip to us.
If the Hawks pass on Battier, it's entirely possible he could slip to us(at 9). Also, note how I predicted that trade possibility in my mock. http://www.clutchcity.net/mockdraft.cfm?xMockID=1019 ------------------ Mmm Queso. [This message has been edited by ElGrandeQueso (edited June 22, 2001).]
I still think the Rockets are after Haywood and will offer the 13th and 18th pick along with Carlos Rodgers for the 9th pick. ------------------
Offering 2 first rounders and Carlos Rogers seems a bit steep to move up 4 spots. If I'm gonna be offering picks like that...i would think the Rockets would like to move into the top 5 ------------------
Do Rockets fans think Carlos Rogers has some sort of trade value? I'm stumped why someone would think that. He's a real nice guy, but he's like an 11th or 12th man. I don't think Detroit trades down for 18 and 23, because that's a huge drop. 13 and 18? Maybe. 13 and 23 and something else? Maybe. There are also rumors Detroit is looking to move up to 6 with Vancouver if a guy they really want is there. And Detroit feels fairly comfortable at 9 anyway. ------------------
I don't think Los has any trade value. My recollection is that he has one more year on his contract (at about $2 mil), and there might be an opt out clause. If we move him, it would be to create cap space, and would probably cost us a pick, rather than help us get one. (Unless we lost 23 and picked up a later one in the deal) ------------------ "We're having a pretty good time considering one day we're all going to die." Steve Martin, 1976
Day was never that 'slinky' for lack of a better word. He suffered from Shandon Anderson Disease which prevented him from bending his body between the waist and the neck. I had never seen Johnson and about 30 seconds of film over the internet was enough to prove to me that he can play. ------------------
Brenda Haywood is a huge reach for a lottery selection. I don't think the Rockets would have much of a problem drafting him at 18 much less 13. ------------------
With the way the talent has arranged itself in this draft, the Rockets will be better served taking Joe Johnson with the pick they trade up for, then grabbing whatever 2nd-tier big man is still available with the pick they keep. Most likely we will trade picks 13 & 18 to move up 4-5 spots, and keep pick 23. The other option is to move up and grab Diop (if he falls that far, very possible), then take T-Mo with pick 23. ------------------
