http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1308/rocket_draft_pick_summary/ If there is anything confusing or incorrect here, please feel free to let me know. I'd like to make this as clear as possible for those who may not be as aware about the lottery.
It's as clear as day Unless one of the 'obvious' picks (thomas, morrison, aldridge, roy, gay, carney, italian dude) miraculously drops to us i say we grab Shelden Williams. We want a solid, rebounding, shot blocking PF---well he's right there waiting for us.
Clutch according to this website, the tie-breaker for draft positioning is some kind of random drawing/coin-flip. Unfortunately the site has gone 404 just in the past couple of days. I wonder if it's traffic got overloaded from hits off of this board and other message boards/blogs around the internet. You can take a look at it's Google Cache here and find the following entry: Don't know if you'll run with that, but just wanted to put it out there. Edit: BTW According to that site we have about an 8% chance at a top 3 pick. Not too good. If we were in a three way tie for 6th, it would have been about a 15-16% chance. Oh well.
Since it appears we are 2+ slots away from getting our big 2 man, I think we should just take the best person available.
Can you guys believe this? http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060420/APS/604200501 The Ledger - The Wolves' final game of the 2005-2006 season wasn't taken too seriously by the club, as head coach Dwane Casey gave Mark Madsen the green light to shoot from 3-point land. Madsen took a career-high 15 shots, making just one of them. "The guys were having fun with it," Casey said. "For what we've been through this season, I thought the guys deserved it. I hope what we did didn't make a mockery of the game." With the 102-92 loss to Memphis, the Wolves are no assured of keeping their first round draft choice. "There's been so much doom and gloom around here," Casey said. "There is a rainbow at the end of the storm."
You purposely and explicitly tanked the game at the end. And you "hope" you didn't make a mockery of it? I hope the T-Wolves get a heavy fine for this. Lord knows the NBA has levied stiff fines for comparatively trivial matters.
That's funny considering how we've been begging the Rockets to tank it for the last 3 weeks. I guess you can do it purposely, just not explicitly.
When is the random tie-breaker? Also, Clutch, I was never too impressed with Sheldon Williams but he seems to be getting a lot of love around here. What's your take on him? If we're going to miss out on the top level talent I'd just as soon trade down or just grab Reddick. We need shooters and it seems like there's nothing but undersized 2's this year. Might as well grab someone we know is good from distance.
It depends on what is the priority of the rockets. Whether it is a PF who can rebound and block shots or a tall guard who can make open jumpers and defence. Last season, the rockets need atheletic, so they drafted the best atheletic player available, Luther Head. So what is the real need for the rockets now??
According to the Chronicle, the random drawing/coin flip is tomorrow. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3806223.html Barring a move up in the lottery, the Rockets will have the eighth or ninth pick in the draft on June 28, depending on the results of a random drawing on Friday.
