thanks queso... what your friend told you is the only plausible thing to me. why would the rockets pursue a center or a pf if they trade up? those players are all hs players, and subsequently bunk. you don't overpay for a hs player unless he's the real deal. Doc Rocket's insinuation that the player would 'be young for a long time' insinuates that the player is mature like Battier or at least legitimately skilled like Rodney White. Might I add to our dear friends heyIsuck and newbiehad and Iusesmeggelonmyaussiemullett, that both White and Battier are 3s. ------------------ When this guy started smoking 40 years ago, people had no idea it was bad for you. People had to guess based on the hacking cough, shortness of breath, and bloody phlegm girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?! Battier of Griffin, tops on my list. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
griffin may be the best talent in the draft but he has some personality problems. my only fear of battier is that he will become a good role player, instead of a second or third go-to-guy. white looks like he could be a third scorer for us at sf. also a defencive stopper at either sf or pf. don't rule out joe johnson. he can score and has great ball control. ------------------
I think a lot of the fears about Eddie Griffin having a "personality problem" or potentially a disruptive force in the locker room is being blown way out of proportion. A lot of the top teams in the draft have commented that his off-the-court altercations with his teammates weren't a point of concern. Most of them in interviews comment how they understood where he was coming from. They attribute the altercations to being young and overly competitive, not from some intrinsic source of eternal anger. I think one GM commented how the teammate he fought in high school was 6'10", 270lbs, and he liked how Griffin didn't back down from him. ------------------
May I remind Achebe that just because they are natural SF's, it does not mean that Rudy will play them there. Besides, White's a combo forward anyway. ------------------ "I always thought it was something that went around my house" - World B. Free on Defence
H.E.B., I got a completely opposite meaning from this. The quote 'be young for a long time' to me means he's really young to begin with. As in Kobe's been around for 4-5 years and he's still only about 22. He's a kid/senior out of college. He's been young for a long time. ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
well dangit. I guess we'll be able to reverse compile Wednesday night... but then again we won't know if the deal even went down, dabnabbit. ugghhghhgghgh.
I spoke to a friend yesterday who is a self-claimed "insider" for the Rockets. He told me that the team does not intend to pick a high schooler because of uncertainty of their talent, or a European player because of the chance they can't play. He said the guy who they were truly impressed with and would likely be the reason for a trade up is Rodney White. Maybe this is because he is simply the best guy they have worked out or he is simply just that good. MJ seems to like him too, and I would trust MJ or the Rockets on who is good, well because they are basically the only people to win championships in the 90's. My friend also said the only guy the Rocks had above White on their draft board is Shane Battier. He seems Rudy-esque: 4 years, great defensive player, and is a small forward, so that could make sense. Stay tuned..... ------------------ Mmm Queso.
