What DVDs are good ? ( Not just the movie, but the extra stuff)

    I dont have that many DVDs, but I'm interested in buying those with a lot of extra stuff. I'm fascinated by the director's commentary ( or the actors) and I like the gag reels and vignettes from comedies.

    The best two dvds I have in this department are probaby American Beauty and The 40 Year Old Virgin ( most hilarious stuff I've watched...). I also liked the absurd commentary on Anchorman (David Koechner singing for Lou Rawls).

    What other DVDs, whether for dramas or comedies, are worth the little money I have ?

    People actually listen to the commentary?? :confused: I have NEVER done that. Maybe I will. I bet most of FERRELL's movie commentaries are hilarious.

    I'm a geek I guess. Yes, Will Ferrell's commentary in Anchorman is great. For about the first 5 minutes of the film he and director Adam Mckay just start saying the most crude and disgusting words and phrases imaginable... and I guess some were so bad they had to be bleeped ( on the unrated version). Andy Richter, Kyle Gass ( tenacious D), and Lou Rawls are also on it ( even though they had nothing to do with the movie) as well as the rest of the cast from the film.

    I dont care for the last two movies... But I love This is Spinal Tap! Do you have the other movies Christopher Guest movies? Res, thanks for reminding to put these on my list.

    fight club, se7en, red dragon all have pretty good special features/2nd discs.

    Speaking of good Disc Twos' ... my daughters and I just finished watching Star Wars' "the Making of Episode I" on Disc 2. It's awesome to see how little Jake Lloyd beats out two other kids and then he signs the contract. He sounds so genuinely good. Also, McCallum calls McGregor to get started on the movie and Ewan gets his long hair cut to become Obi-Wan. Good times.

    the lotr extended edition dvds are the BEST in terms of dvd presentation, but i dont know if youre a fan

    the pixar or movies are always very, very good
    raging bull
    road to perdition
    saving private ryan
    cant leave out the godly godfather set

    im sure theres more, those are just off the top of my head

    Any Kevin Smith movies, the dude does the best DVDs, the only disspointment DVD he's relesaed was Jersey Girl, but not many people liked that movie anyway, and he said there was suppose to be a Special Edition of that, but no sign of it.

    while we're on movies, did sin city ever get released with all the special features? i know it was released on dvd but then they were supposed to release a bigger more beefed up special edition... any word on that?

    I like the tv shows on DVD, I have the sopranos seasons 4 & 5 and I like the commentaries on very intriguing episodes, I rented 24 and I hear the commentary on some of the episodes.

    The extra's for Lord of War was pretty damn good. They have a good historical perpective of international arms dealing.

    Any Criterion Collection DVD.

    Amelie has a great 2nd disc.

    Goonies audio commentary is pretty good, and it has the missing "Octopus" scene.
