i'm not talking motorcycle, but an actual pedaling bike. need some suggestions. looking for a nice mountain bike for no more than $200. where should i go? are there places that sell really good used ones?
hmm, i don't remember seeing anything under $200 at bike barn...unless i'm thinking of some other place.
My wife and I want to be able to ride around the neighborhood and the park on the weekends. I have an older bike that should work just fine, but she needs a new one. Anybody suggest one that would be good? We aren't speed biking or mountain biking, just going out for weekend neighborhood rides. Are the ones at Academy for like $100-$200 good enough for this? I'm guessing they aren't going to just fall apart.
i never thought about academy. i'm gonna check them out. i'm sure there are quality bikes there around the $120 range. if you don't abuse it too much, it should last a long time.
My friend likes Cyclone Cycles near the Medical Center. He takes biking pretty seriously though. For $200 I think you can get a low-end Trek mountain bike. Mine (Trek 820) was like $240. If you buy a new one from a local bike shop they'll usually adjust the cables for free within the first month or so. It takes about that long for cables to stretch and stuff. I've never seen the ones at Academy. What brands do they carry?
I'll sell you mine for a little more than $200. It's a Specialized Rockhopper A1 FS and I rode it sparingly at best (it was more of an impulse buy than anything else). If you are interested, send me an e-mail through the board.
you cannot get a decent mountain bike for under $200. entry level hardtail MTN Bikes would cost you at least $500. The Specialized Rockhopper that someone was offering seems like an amazing deal, depending on what production year it was. However, if your budget is really tight, i would suggest a used Specialized Hardrock, basic model, they retail for $300 new thus you should be able to get one for cheap used. DO NOT get a walmart/costco bike and take it to the trails, it will break on you, heck, they even have stickers on bikes that say "not for off road use"
i'm looking for a hybrid type of bike. i'd rather not spend more than $200 as it's for recreational purposes. may take it on a dirt trail occasionally but mostly gonna be on pavement.
if its for mainly rec use, i would suggest Trek 4300 series and below., specialized hardrock, or cannondale badboy.
I will forever stay away from the retail chain superstore route cause I got hosed. My bike broke down after only a few years of moderate use. Academy might, MIGHT, be a little better though. I bought my new bike at Planetary Cycles on Stella Link. It's a great, entry-level mountain bike (for the casual biker) and came in right at $200.
if its nothing major, you can try pinkbike.com, the stickies in certain sections have very ver helpful links, other wise, you will have to try a local bike shop.
it is hard to find a decent bike for 2 bills. I paid 350 for my trek 4300 from bike barn. You just missed their huge sale last month. it comes twice a year.
