I also back my points up with facts! You are trying to compare me with the president you have never met me, what gives?
As a whole after the initial wave of everyone freaking out then I think it would be a fact. Of course some bad apples will blame anyone for anything and then there are some idiots out there that think Steve Francis is the best basketball player on earth. I just think most folks here would realize you can get hurt anytime and I hope the Chinese fans do the same but with some of their crazy talk right now who knows?
Don't look now but there are a lot of people who blame JVG for leaving Yao in that game (I don't blame him, but many people do), and I'm certain that they're not all Chinese. And regarding the max contract stuff. I've said a number of times that superstars wield a lot of power regardless of how much the club is paying them. Unhappy stars make for unhappy franchises. So these "do this or else" tactics aren't going to work. If Yao wants to play, all the Rockets can do is give him their best advice on what to do about his health. Chinese basketball and the Rockets will have their say, but it will be Yao that makes this decision for the World Championships.
Probally not a good plan but I hope after the 2008 games they will allow him to spend his summers as he pleases untill the 2012 games. I can't imagine how hard it is for Yao being pulled in so many directions but I think he is very smart and very high character and with that being said I have faith he will make smart decisions this summer.
For those people who keep crying about 'money' 'money', 'contract' 'contract': - when joining NBA, Yao, Rockets and Chinese government had a 3-way contact that Yao shall play for the CNT when required. - salary is not Yao's only income source, probably not even the biggest one. - the salary Rockets paying Yao is surely not more than the value Yao bringing to Rockets. It's a fair business, a win-win situlation. Don't make a lose-lose one by fighting for controlling Yao, as rfila suggested. Oh, btw, it's Rockets management, who also respect Yao's obligation to his national team, pay Yao the salary, not you. So please stop acting like Yao's daddy saying things like 'you're paid to do so'. 'Stay here don't give a damn on the CNT.' 'All your base are belong to us ...' It's all up to Yao.
You are not wrong if these are exactly what you said in your previous posts(I take these vague words like "some" in your post at its face value). But, please read your own posts again if you have a short memory. Further more, these are not what we are arguing about in this thread, hence not very meaningful here anyway. We all agree that Yao should not play WC if he is not 100% healthy. The question is whether the rockets are willing to let Yao play WC even if he is ready to play because of potential injury, or too busy a schedule for him to be 100% ready for next season. That is why many Chinese fans suspect the authenticity of the rocovery time claimed by the rockets. To lesser extent, we also have different views about the impotance of WC, whether China should try its best in spite of little chince to win it and how much Yao should response to his obligation to CNT as well as to Rockets. Hope you get clearer picture by now. Of coures, you can still call me Idiot, it is bbs anyway.
Nice of you to try an warn him, but I think the warning was futile after his first post. Interestingly...it sounds kind of xenophopic of you to hold such a stereotype of Texans.
Although I can't be certain about the quotes which might have been taken out of the context, I'll give you benefit of the doubt. Since rejoining Olympics in 1984, China has qualified to play in each Olympic basketball event. Yao only started to play for CNT in the 2000 Olympics, and he wasn't the Man until the 2004 Game. It would be a fluke for CNT NOT to make it to Olympics. Even if there had been no Yao, CNT would have found other ways to assemble "talents," regardless how they were regarded in the eyes of American basketball fans. Unless you meant to say without winning a medal, no team belongs in Olympics, I don't see how my statement you quoted can be misunderstood. First of all, if you are not one of them, how do you know the wishes of most Chinese fans as far as Yao is concerned? Second, why do you think Yao would make a decision that unreasonably disappoints Chinese fans (in your own derisive rhetoric "a slap in the face of Chinese fans")? In other words, why in the world wouldn't CNT officials and Chinese fans wish the best of Yao?
while we expect him to be 100% coming to camp in October, Chinese fans expect him to be 100% joining the NT before the WC. They are mad that Yao got injured playing in some totally meaningless games, just like you will be mad if Yao gets injured playing for CNT. You only look at this from your perspective, which is as selfish as their perspective. Yao had the toe problem at the begining of the season, and he kept playing for 1.5 month. According to your logic, we should've told him rest until he is 100%. We didn't. Why? Games don't wait for you. I am 100% for Yao not playing until he is 100% again, but I am sure he may want to play in the WC even if he is only 80%. I mean, the WC is once every 4 years. It is basketball version of world cup soccer game. Maybe it doesn't mean much to you, but it means a lot to players, especially international players. Whether you like it or not, it is up to Yao, and I fear he is gonna to play even not 100%.
"He (Van Gundy) disabled Yao Ming! He's more vicious than a capitalist!" fumed one chat-room fan, according to Reuters news service. That's the funniest line of all. China is pretty capitalist...I don't see many communist countries with Wal-Marts, McDonald's, KFC....
Hey guys. Go off this topic.!!! 3rd world war is coming.. to be honest, just respect YAO's own decision....
Um, last time I checked, when Yao sat out with "minor injuries" in some meaningless games in China, most Chinese fans didn't complain. In fact, it was the clutchfans here that were whining when he played a few games at the end of summer that he's "coming back too early.
