Good Lord. The blackouts only lasted 15mins, thats nothing! I've been to other parts of the world, where when they get blackouts its a couple of days and no water on top of that. Just thank god we dont get them like that, or people would be freaking out.
i think your blackout was only 15 min. i know others who were out at least an hour. and no one's really freaking out. it's just a discussion about it.
He didn't say we're freaking out. He's saying "thank god we dont get [blackouts lasting two days], or people would be freaking out". I think you thought he meant we're freaking out, when in reality he didn't say that, he just thanks God that it didn't happen for a day or two. What am I, the translator here?
I have indoor animals that need the a/c running in hot weather. Or, else, I'll have "well done" animals when I return home. What am I supposed to do then? Eat them for dinner? Granted, the blackouts were very short and that is not a problem. But, for us who are unaccustomed to blackouts, then it can be a problem if we are not planning accordingly. If you live somewhere that expects blackouts, then that is different as they are used to it. We, however, are not. We didn't really get any warning. If I would have left my house at 8am and the power went off shortly thereafter for all day, then I think it would have been much more of a problem. I've come home before when my a/c broke during the day and my animals were basically exhausted and sweating badly. I'm not clear how long they could have lasted in that situation on a very hot day. It's definitely a concern. In all my life, we've never had a rolling blackout like this. So, it was definitely a surprise.
When I got home I noticed that my alarm clock was blinking and my computer was shut down so I knew we had at least a minor outage. The strange thing is that I work just down the street from my apartment and we didn't have any power problems there at all... I'm in the Dallas area, btw...
you know I'm not trying to be a jerk and I don't want this to be moved to the D&D but people wonder why we are viewed as spoiled by other countries. I'm sorry but no one cares about your animals. it was fifteen minutes of discomfort.
I was referring to if it was an extended blackout. So, at least know what your talking about before you bark at me. All I was pointing out was a hypothetical that could have affected me. I wasn't being an arrogant american. Geez. The fifteen minutes didn't bother me in the least and it wouldn't have bothered me if it were longer. But, if it pushes the distance, then I need to be aware and deal with my problems due to it accordingly. I care about my f-ing animals. I don't care whether you care. ****
he wasn't asking anyone to care. he was merely pointing out what kind of situation he might have been in.
but he was responding to a post about what others have to deal with around the world. I'm not saying our standards shouldn't be better, but the situation doesn't have seem to have been that bad at all.
My power went out yesterday around 4:45...I wasn't home, but I expect the same today...It's hotter up here in Dallas...
*snicker* Lightweights. Survive for days in a NYC blackout (living on the 21st floor of a high-rise apartment building) and then get back to me.
I guess I'm pretty lucky living on the coast. I haven't even turned on my AC this year. It was 80 degrees in my house last night, but I just threw off the comforter and cranked up the ceiling fan to high...
ok, i'll do you one better. frankly, no one here really cares about other parts of the world having 2 day blackouts. it's harsh, but true.
That is exactly the reason the rest of the world hates us. We care only about ourselves, me, me, and me. In other parts of the world that is unheard of, Have some compassion.
i'll stop with the us versus the world argument b/c it's starting to lean towards D&D...and that'll put me in unknown territory.
Try no power for 3 weeks. Thankfully I stayed with friends for that time, but I had several neighbors that didn't leave.
