The guys on the 610 AM evening crew mentioned that the Rockets and some other teams were interested in Kedrick Brown, small forward from Okaloosa-Walton CC. He was described as Richard Jefferson with a jump shot. The guys said Brown has only worked out with the Blazers. Apparently, the Blazers have assured Brown's agent/advisor the team will draft Kedrick with the 19th pick. Brown's agent is advising Kedrick not to visit any teams.

There is nothing that says a player must work out with interested teams, but will anyone (especially the Rockets) take a chance on this guy? My only concern is that Kedrick is set on playing with the Blazers, and could demand a trade like Francis. I was wondering if you guys have heard about this situation, and have any more info on Kedrick.

Brown, a 6-foot-7 forward who was recently selected as a first-team junior college all-American, told the Northwest Florida Daily News the decision was the biggest of his life.

"I just started thinking about it the past couple of months," Brown said. "I think this is the best decision for me and my family."

Brown averaged 22.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.3 blocks last season. He shot 60 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from 3-point range.

i dunno but kedrick brown seems like an intriguing possibility. i'm a big fan of high school players, and young players in general. look at t-mac, he would be a senior this year. all these people say ooh if he would have played one more year of college basketball, he could improve his handle/shot/whatever but i mean if they go to the nba, they practice with high quality competition, and can improve all that stuff i would think. look at kobe, after 2 or 3 years in the league, he was just fine so i think others can do well and learn stuff even if they sit on the bench. kedrick brown looks like a great player, and just because he is young and from a community college doesn't bother me at all. that just means he couldn't qualify academically, and we know there are plenty of dumb people in the nba hahaha. tyson chandler would be going to a juco most likely if he didn't go to the nba, because i heard the ncaa would have never let him set foot on the court (because of his summer league sponsers gifts, driving a 2001 escalade to high school, dealing with agents, etc.) so just because someone went to a juco doesn't mean they suck. look at steve francis. plenty of other mcdonalds all americans that couldn't qualify and took that route as well. all i'm saying is that for some reason i think this guy will be a pretty good player in the nba...maybe he will develop faster and better because he'll be working with better coaches, nba not community college. also, i wouldn't mind seeing the rockets take him at 18. haha this comes from someone who absolutely loves kwame brown, ousmane cisse, desagana diop, and perhaps most of all gerald wallace. high school player of the year over miles, griffin last year this guy will be a big time player in the league. also REALLY like a high school junior - amare stoudamire. i just think the young players are exciting, and kedrick brown is one player who catches my eye. lol now that i think about it this was one big ramble...oh well hahaha

Damone Brown is also a very good prospect that could be an interesting pick to the Rocket.

According to Espn: Athletic combo forward could be one of the nation's most improved players ... Quick, but slight. Needs to add a lot of weight ... A very talented athlete able to play both frontcourt positions. Prefers to drift on the perimeter because he lacks the strength to mix it up. Still has the size to contribute in traffic ... Slithers through traffic to free himself for athletic finishes ... Too big for wings, too quick for power forwards ... Good change of direction speed and a strong one-on-one player on face-up drives ... Possesses a nice touch around the rim ... Soft floater going to the basket. Capable of playing above the rim. Recipient of a lot of alley-oop passes ... Instead of muscling in for rebounds, he surreptitiously sneaks his way to the ball ... Somewhat of a defensive liability right now, but look for him to improve ... Still not much of a passer.

DrewP: yeah lol i'm intrigued in a community college player...he would be playing at lsu next year, filling a stromile swift type role, and just b/c he played at community college doesn't mean he doesn't have skills. stupid, maybe...oh yeah haha let's sub a name in...put steve francis in this topic and everything i said about brown for him...i can see you all "oooh are you intrigued by a scrub ass player who plays at san jacinto community college" yeah...kedrick brown will be a killer. i bet you'd prefer the type of player who has played four seasons of college ball, right? maybe a player such as jamaal tinsley?? hahaha oh what is this, there is no record of him playing at iowa state other than his junior and senior seasons??? OH YEAH, that's right...he couldn't qualify academically and played his freshman and sophomore seasons at a california JUNIOR COLLEGE hahahaha. since it seems you like to try to act condescending, maybe you should head over to http://www.nbadraft.net/ where kedrick brown is rated as: OVERALL - 98. LOL. or maybe espn while your at it...check who's projected as the 11th pick which i remind you is lottery hahaha oh now that's good fun

    right here, ace

Hey, if the Rockets hold onto the 18th pick, do you think we could use our leverage of having the pick before Portland's to our advantage. For instance, could we draft Brown at #18 and then trade him to Portland for #19 and their second rounder. I know this is a deep draft. That way, Rudy and CD could take a flyer on a kid with potential late in the second round. That kid could play in the summer league, come to training camp with a remote chance of making the squad, and if not could play in Europe or the IBL for a year before making our team. If Portland wants him that much, I say a deal like that would only help us.
