Turn the page to 1966, the sentence above might be recognized by most of chinese. But it is 2006 now~~
You are a typical selfish person. Yao is a very special player who plays many roles. He is loved by not just Chinese or just Rockets fans. People ask a lot from him.
And yet you don't seem to have a problem with him playing in meaningless games for the Chinese National Team. How many meaningless games has he played over the summer in China when it was totally meaningless? A bunch. Chinese want Yao to play the meaningless games this year when they don't need Yao to quallify for the olympics and yet where is your complaint for that. BTW, Yao has broken his foot before...who was he playing for? hmmm. One word comes to mind when I here the Chinese whinning that Yao getting hurt playing meaningless games for the Rockets....Hypocrites
I find it especially funny that they complain that the only reason the ROckets played him was to sell tickets...... Especially when the CNT wants him back for exibition games...for what reason do they want him then?? TO SELL TICKETS! hahaha....and the ROckets are the meanies here.
Some truly myopic, America-centric thinking in your posts. Let me help you, it's not all about money for the rest of the world, or even all Americans. And regardless of what bush and rumsfeld would like you to believe, other people's opinions matter just as much. Try to open you mind just a wee bit.
Dear R2K, would you make some movie clip for This year's Rox like what you do this period last season? Just the same as " CLutchCIty3" or "Evolution of YAO" we watched last year.
Yes, CNT officials and Rox management are equally stupid. Playing Yao for some meaningless Asian Games = Playing Yao for some meaningless NBA game at the end of regular season with nothing to play for = stupid.
I dont do mixes. I gladly give permission for others to use my material to do them, but I just do not have the time required to do those nice mix videos. Very very time consuming. ivan. NO in my eyes, there is no such thing as a meaningless game during the NBA season....unlike a great deal of posters here...I do not advocate, nor do I want my team to tank...if they are scheduled to play against another NBA team, I want them to do their best to win it. Whereas, the main complaint I see in articles related to Yao's injury is that he may not be available to play in the exhibitions and possibly the WCs(which arent even *that* important since China automatically has an Olympic berth for the 08 Olympics....which last time I heard, are the games China really really wants to win.) Big difference in my eyes....meaningless exhibitions vs NBA games(that he is paid millions to play) just because you dont find the NBA season very important unless your team is in the finals doesnt mean I share your views.
That is just your opinion. But it doesn't change the fact that those games are meaningless. In fact, a lot of NBA players share the same view and already start to plan their vacation. They won't openly admit it, but it happens every season. Winning one or two more games makes no differences at all. However, injures in those games do make a difference. Yes, it was an accident. But it was avoidable. Otherwise, why do we need risk management? CNT doesn't agree with you, neither does Team USA. The players in Team USA have to commit to both WCs and Olympics, including their qualifies. WCs may not be as important as Olympics, but it is at the same level. That is because you are a Rox homer. I am neither a Rox homer nor a CNT homer. I just think it was a very stupid idea to play a star player at the very end of NBA season, considering your team was already in the lottery, losing more games may result in better future, and the player already hurt the previous game and he had to play back to back. CNT did the similar thing before so they were no better.
World Championships are not meaningless by any stretch of imagination. They are as significant as Olympics in the minds of basketball fans world wide, including those in China. Likewise, FIBA and most countries place equal weight in both World Championships and Olympics. There are separate qualification games to compete for spots in Olympics, through Continental Championships to be played in 2007. The results in this year's WC, other than the Gold Medal position, are irrelevant to the qualification for the 2008 Olympics. So at least get your facts straight before you spew ignorant American-centric BS around here. I was a strong proponent for playing Yao even when the Rockets were all but certain (translation: mathematically eliminated) not to make it to the playoffs. I was disappointed to see Yao suffered Jones Fracture on his left foot which has a problem history. I still think that was a freaking accident and I don't blame it on JVG. These games were meaningless as far as the Rockets' playoff hope is concerned. There's little question about that.
I wonder what the hell is reuters doing? Reports some comments from radical fans. Are those comments representing a normal Chinese basketball fans? That is totally meaningless and ridicious. I really doubt why they don't mention the "Fire the JVG" threads from ClutchFans as well. KH
Yao playing for the rockets because he signed a contract to play, he didn't sign a contract to sit out when they are out of the playoffs. Using your logic, the Atlanta Hawks shouldn't even play a single game because they have ZERO chance making the playoffs. These guys are professionals, they have an obligation to the fans who pay for their salaries to play when they can.
I never say that it's ok for Yao to play in those friendly games, but not the World Championships and Olympics, you know what, they are not meaningless in any sense... Every basketball player dreamt of winning the Gold, well maybe except for the Americans... Losing a your star player in meaningless friendly national games and meaningless NBA games are equally stupid, like what ivanyy2000 said... How about playing young players or the bench more minutes instead of forcing starters to play 40 minutes every night? Didn't Yao work hard enough earlier in the season to deserve some rest at the end of the season where winning or losing doesn't mean too much anymore?
Hey dude there're 24 teams in WBC and 12 teams in olympics... Thought you should do some research first before you post
Well said. I'm with the Chineese on this one...it's always about the money, and the Rockets got caught with their hand in Yao's pocket this time when he broke his foot in a game that he should have been wearing a suit instead of a uniform. It's always about the money...Yao is our greatest asset. So how do we fix it...well for starters we should have let the Chineese doctors examine Yao, secondly we should have better handled how the information of the recovery time was communicated to the Chineese govt. Thirdly, we should make it clear that the the final decision to test his foot in the WC is up to YAO.
