I may have occasion to travel to Canada in the "near" future. What is required to cross the border in terms of identification? Visa? Passport? Driver's License? Costco Membership Card? I haven't used a passport since 1978... so I don't have one of those.
you don't really need a passport. as huypham stated. However, by Sept/Oct they will REQUIRE you to have a passport, due to Mr. Bush.
Yeah, the probably require passports now. However, back when I went (3 times by car and once by air) I only showed my Texas DL. That was enough. You don't have much trouble getting into Canada. It's coming back that is the problem. And that's why you should get the passport. Save you trouble.
Just get a passport and save yourself the trouble of digging up your birth certificate. You can't get by with just your drivers license anymore. And as Yonkers stated, getting into Canada is cakewalk. Coming back is the hard part. Case in point: when driving across the border, I've never, ever been searched by Canadian customs. Coming back into the U.S., I get searched about half the time.
I was last there in Victoria, BC and on Vancouver Island in the summer of 1972 as a new high school graduate. I'm not sure I'm going but I'll be in Toronto if I go.
