Rudy Gay's dunks were pretty good but he doesn't have the handles or outside shot of a 2 guard. He can become a good 3 in time. I think he won't fall to us but if he does CD should take a good look at him.
Those are some nasty in game dunks. You could see this kid being anything from Josh Smith to Richard Jefferson to Tracy McGrady...and Josh Smith isn't horrible.
He's a much better shooter than Josh Smith, but he's got the similarly bad handles, but an explosive first step. It's the main reason he could never be a 2-guard unless something dramatic happens with that. Also, he's a legit 6'9", which is definitely a 3 all the way.
I'm not so sure. There's that one picture of Brandon Roy face to face with Rudy Gay and Gay is barely taller than Roy. Roy is listed at 6'5". Either Roy is taller than advertised, or Gay is shorter.
Bad handles? Hmmm.....I know his handle is not great but bad is stretching it. Having watched him for two years now consistently (at least 13 games....to be conservative) I can fairly say that he has good enough handle to an All Star Calibur [sic]. Even in the video link above, you would see two throw down (one baseline and the other breaking down the middle) where he showed good to great ball handling/control. To me, the great thing for us about this kid is that he did not have a great year - otherwise we will not even dream of drafting unless we finish in the top three. But as things stand (hopefully we finish 6th from the bottom at worst) he could still fall to us since the fickle hype media is saying that his stock may have fallen. He will not trun 20 until this August. If he is avalaible, I will draft him over anyone else. NCAA Dunk Contest 06 with several Rodney Carney and David Noel sightings. NCAA Dunk Contest 06 That David Noel lad will be a solid NBA player. 6-6, 235 pounds of rock solid muscle and athletism to burn. Average over 6 rebounds as a senior and shot over 42% from trey country. He is the next coming of Josh Howard or Marquis Daniels. Plus he is from a winning program (FWIW). If we can land him (2nd round if we are lucky) and Rudy Gay then we will instant be a more athletic side next season with great depth. We can worry about the PF sport later either through trade or the MLE. Gosh that would be a perfect offseson imo.
Gay is definitely the most athletic player in the draft with probably the most potential as well. I don't how we could play both TMac and Gay at the same time, but that could be a very explosive duo. The real question is who do we take if both Gay and Roy are available. We need a shooter and Roy could fill that hole, but Gay could be a steal if available.
If I didn't follow college basketball and only read this board I would think that Rudy Gay pillages towns and eats babies.
I think Roy is about 6'6", though I agree they look similar in height. If you mean when they got in that pissing match during the tourney, Gay was stooping in those shots. 6'9" might be typical height padding, but I'm fairly certain that Gay isn't less than 6'8.5" though. If you google search him for images, the first page has a picture of him with Charlie Villanueva, who is around 6'10" or 6'11" and they look fairly close.
Here are some Rodney Carney highlights from last year's NIT. Check out this fast break block: http://youtube.com/watch?v=x2BGlGuMel4 I'm surprised the guy's arm didn't pop out of socket. Also a baseline slam ... http://youtube.com/watch?v=73CcaR_NPK8 ... and a windmill slam. http://youtube.com/watch?v=57UN71GWP-U
Fegwu, that James White from Cincinnati is a total athletic freak. I don't think I can remember seeing a player dunk with two hands from the freeline so easily. The dood is explosive. Wow.
