JVG would have no problem find another coaching job in NBA. He's proven. People are picking on him too much, just like they picked on Yao before. Had JVG said it's because of injury, you people would say JVG is looking for excuses. So basiclly he can do nothing right.
I'm annoyed. I'm annoyed as I can get about something like this. If Yao had an ankle injury, you do not play him. Period. Not when you are eliminated, and not when he is the last healthy franchise player we've got. If he's injured at all, you sit him. There was nothing to be gained by him playing except the possibility of something like this happening, which is not a gain, but a disaster. Spin it however you like. Van Gundy didn't injure all the players we've lost this season. He's not out there with a crowbar beating them silly, until backs are screwed up, ankles are injured, knees are blown, or calfs have happen to them whatever the hell happens to a calf. (I thought they belonged on a ranch, but I digress) What Van Gundy can control is putting players on the floor, during a meaningless game, who are injured. That was an idiotic act on his part, and we are paying the price for it. Yao is paying the price for it. And we will have him come to camp, if we're lucky, striving to get back into shape, instead of using the summer to work on his game. And if he had had to play for China instead, at least he would be staying in some sort of shape. Man, I am pissed.
You must be kidding! Van Gundy has the worst attitude I have ever seen in a professional coach ever. And instilling values in his players is even a bigger joke. Instilling values, Ha. Yeah how about the value this is no team I am the dictator and you are the peasants (unless your name is Tmac) and if I don't like you, you are out of here! Or the value if you make a mistake I am going to call you out in front of the media everytime. "Yao is not playing good defense... this team plays with no heart! Yeah well stupid Van Dummy that is your job to give them heart. You handpicked this team and got rid of everyone but Yao who happens to play with the most heart of all and no you say this team has no heart. Well the Rockets were know as the team that played with the heary of a champion until your moronic a$$ came along. I don't deny he has some basketball knowledge. But he is absolutely the worst motivational coach in the league. And it's so ironic that he said "talent doesn't win games most teams have enough talent", it's the coaching that makes the difference... because with his unmotivational coaching tactics the Rockets could never win without talent. Unfortunately for us he will have some success next season ( since I don't see Les being man enough to say I made a mistake hiring Van r****d) because Tmac is star and Yao plays with more Passion and has more heart than Van Gundy could ever dream of and that may prolong his tyrannical uninspired reign on terror. It's not the losing that bothers me. I agree with all the injuries this season losses were bound to occur. It's his constant little weasle-esque speeches he gives to the press. Be a man you little weasle and stop playing your little games with the press and take ownership for your failures. Yes the injuries are not his fault but just once I would like to hear him own up to something that is his fault. Say something like, "It's been a tough season and there'e no denying the injuries have hurt us this year but I am mostly disappointed in myself. You see it's a coaches job to motivate their players to give there all no matter what the circumstance, no matter what the injuries are and I have failed in this area. Even after all the injuries when we still had a shot at the playoffs and Yao was playing better than ever I still couldn't get one other player to step up. And last year at the end of the season when we needed to win most I couldn't get this team motivated and in the playoffs after we took a commanding lead against Dallas I couldn't help this teams confidence enough to win a game. And since I had a firesale on this team and hand picked the new roster I have to take responsibility for the poo production from our role players. It's obvious I have misjudged some players talents and not been able to help other players improve their game and kept other players like Bowen who just don't have the talent to play in this league. I deserve the blame for this. It is true that we need some changes on this team we need a stronger more defensive minded power forward and at least one ace outside shooter and better starting point guard. But more than that we need a better head coach and I must reevaluate my coaching tactics and philosophy and see if I can be that coach."... Yes if JVG could be man enough to own up to his real faults and not some manipulative ploy to distract the media than I would be all for him coaching the Rockets again. Ah but it will never happen. It's not he in his character , what little he has.
What should he do? Tell them it's all of a sudden ok to lose? When a team faces adverse situations, be it injury or whatever, that's all the more reason to play harder and smarter.
Van Gundy is the coach, and it's his job to make his team better in whatever way he deems necessary. What, you want him to take a team vote for every coaching decision? Media asks him in the media session how Yao played (in a loss). He answered honestly, and correctly. Yao had a ton of defensive lapses, albeit he played well on offense. Every coach, unless they're playing favorites (a la Mike Brown with LeBron James), will give an honest assessment when asked about a player's performance after a game. Van Gundy has admitted that his team not playing with passion (like in the embarassing blowout against Phoenix and in many other instances) is "on him" as a coach over and over again. How many times has Van Gundy praised Yao's work ethic and dedication to the team in the media? Jesus ... Van Gundy never said "talent doesn't win games." He's pointed out, in fact, that when the Rockets have Tracy and Yao they're a pretty good team. Now you're just making up quotes to try to make your point. "Van Dummy". "Van r****d". Wow. Since Van Gundy HAS said that he shares responsibility in the losing season, I don't know what else you expect him to do. You want him to enumurate every poor decision he's made throughout the season? Has a coach ever done that in the history of sports? Van Gundy has blamed himself for not getting his players to play better many times. Gimme a break on expecting him to say "we need a better head coach". There's not a single coach in professional sports who'd do that. You made one long ass post, and failed to make a single valid point. I'm sorry, but to me this appears to be more of an angry rant than an argument.
Makes it sound like you want the pleasure of pointing out his hypocrisy, and you're annoyed that there isn't any.
Clearly, CD isn't so light-hearted about Yao's injury as a lot of you guys. The tone of the report is quite depressing.
Had Yao injured himself in a commerical game CNT arranged for him this summer, you guys would be cursing CNT forever. Now, you are defending JVG and teams decision to keep playing him in these meaningless games. Isn't it ironic?
Yeah and you responded to every posssible section and still only proved that you are blindly in love with Jeffy and you are stupid a$$ r****d.
I don't have aproblem with him playing for China in the WC's, the qualiftying tourneys or the Olympics - essentially the same stuff that other NBA stars go for. If he got injured in one of those events, even in a meaningless game - big deal, you can't really blame him or the CNT for that. If he's playing 40 mpg in stuff like the "FIBA Stankovich Cup" or exhibition matches vs. Qatar - that's a different aniimal entirely, and I'd probably be more upset. Considering that China Basketball (not sure which entity) already got a chunk of his salary, I would consider his debts to them paid in full.
the franchise is in trouble, and people act like everything's gonna be fine next year. T-MAC HAS A CHRONIC BACK PROBLEM I listen to 610, and its always, "when t-mac comes back next season", as if this is bagwell breaking his wrist. foot injuries and big guys don't mix, I'm not as worried about yao, but these are serious issues, we have to max players whose careers are on hold right now.
Aye, why ain't I surprised with this post coming from SamFisher? Apparently the concept of taxes loses its meaning when it comes to the Chinese.
well, A LOT of people do have problem with his playing for CNT. They have such a problem with it that they think Yao's better off injured and not playing for CNT. They call those games stupid and meaningless.
When left without an argument, either "take a vacation" or posting some nonrelated and nonsensical hogwash. That always work. On an interesting note though, if you are like that man in the photo, it's not exactly much of a last stand. The similarities are uncanny between you two.
Stop hijacking this thread. I started a thread for you in D&D http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=2279501#post2279501 Now please confine your insults to over there.
Insults? My my, a little sensitive today are we? Really Sam, I'd debate with you, but what would be the point? This isn't exactly the first time I've pointed out the obligation for Yao to pay taxes now is it? Like the last, what was it now, at least half a dozen times you've raised the issue, when confronted with facts, you didn't exactly make a last stand. I believe in the last one I drew a comparison of Yao's deal with the transfer fees European soccer clubs usually charge, following which you conveniently disappeared... once again, only to raise it in another thread, another time (as we are witnessing once again today). So I do find it highly humourous when you make your last stand. Nice try though.
Considering where we were in the season, what we had to play for and the fact that Yao's foot was already slightly injured--he should not have been on the court. It's that simple. I understand that Yao would have wanted to play anyway, but he would have listened to JVG if he was told to sit this one out.
