But remember that we took back Lampe in that deal, so that might have knocked down the exception $850K. Unless we used a prior exception to get Lampe. It seems silly that we can't combine the exception with a player to make a trade. What's to stop us from using the exception to trade for a player going into his last year of a contract, then trading that player along with Sura to the Clips to match Maggette's salary? With the 25% rule, we would only need about another $2 million on top of Sura's salary. Otherwise, our cap fodder going into next season is very limited.
I can't believe all the love for Magette here. Please, Maggette would be a terrible pickup unless we merely gave up SS. He's been a chemistry cancer his entire career. He's a stat padder who needs the ball way too much for a team with two established superstars. Plus, we need a guy to spread the floor for us and nobody is fearful of Maggette's line drive 3's. It's no coincidence the Clips have had their best season with him sidelined. Sure they have Cassell this year, but they once had even more talent and Andre Miller running things and that was still an utter failure.
Maggette would be a nice addition, but I prefer the Josh Childress suggestion. I guess because Childress looks ready to contribute big and is under the radar, while Maggette has already gotten "paid" sort of speak. I like what both of those guys can do, but still have a preference towards guys who can knock down the three. Rashard Lewis would be nice, but that's a fat contract. BTW, maybe Artest or Gerald Wallace... but is there a more ripped guard/small forward in the NBA than Maggette?
I would not be surprised if we brought over Spanoulis and then tried to sign Harpring away from the Jazz. If there ever was a Van Gundy player, Harpring fits the bill. He is tough as nails. Anybody that can take the elbow shot from Deke to the eye socket, and get up and keep ballin will get Gundy's attention. And he's also the guy that will do the dirty work for TMac on the defensive end. I wish he was a better shooter.
Maggette's a tank. It's seriously rediculous. I've only seen Childress play against the Rockets so my viewing of him is limited--the guy looks kind of slender though doesn't he? I'm big on Luol Deng too i think he's be a great big guard.
I didn't know T-Mac had a say in picking up players. I know it's not good to disgruntle your superstar, but if we have the oppurtunity to pick up someone that will automatically contribute to this team, then you've gotta pull the trigger.
Maggette is probably the most underrated player in the NBA and I'd love to have him on the Rockets, but I don't think we can offer up enough to the Clips.
I like Maggette's game but its fantasy that we get him. There are better trades for the Clips if they want to unload him, Dunleavy from the Warriors, Al Harrington sign and trade, SF from the Knicks.
Pretty much. They have no need for Swift since they already have Brand, so what else do we have to offer? Head? A high pick in a crappy draft? There's no way we can get him unless CD has incriminating photos of Elgin Baylor.
If we dont resign Wesley, Maggette would be a good replacement. From the way I see it, Rox had a $65 mill payroll this season, and next year, $55 mill is allready gone in guaranteed contracts. So basically, with the assumption Rox will spend the same as this season, thats roughly $10 mill to resign current expiring contract players (Bogans, Wesley, Frahm?), go after free agents, and spend on guaranteed 1st and 2nd round draft pick contract. I dont know how realistic it is for Rox to spend 7-8 mill on one player then, unless Les opens up his checkbook....

LMAO! Yes, it is a coincidence. You are seriously under-estimating the value of a leader like Sam Cassel in this league. Not to mention the improvement of Elton Brand, Chris Wilcox, addition of Shaun Livingston and Cuttino Mobley. You could argue that Corey was the reason players like Brand hadn't realized their full potential. And I may even believe that. He certainly isn't a leader and doesn't know how to win. But the fact that they are winning, and Maggette is injured, IS coincidental. Without a doubt, they'd be an even better team with him healthy this year. The question as it pertains to the Rockets, aside from whether we could even get him, is: Is there that Sam Cassel type player who would "teach" a player like Maggette to continue playing at a high level yet learn to do the other things to win? T-Mac has never seemed to be that vocal leader. Yao neither. Would their presence alone, though, make Corey become less of a ball-dominant offensive force? The dude would certainly be a MAJOR upgrade to the team, regardless.

Los Angeles did get some bad news as Corey Maggette, who missed his third straight game, told reporters that he has a herniated disk in his back and does not know when he will return. The Clippers' second-leading scorer, Maggette missed 39 games earlier this season because of ligament damage in his right foot. We dont have enough Chiropractors for him and Tmac.
