havent seen this posted yet.... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2405641 After foot surgery, Yao could be out 4-6 months Associated Press HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets center Yao Ming will have surgery this weekend on his broken left foot, and the injury could take four to six months to heal, general manager Carroll Dawson said Tuesday. The 7-foot-6 Yao was hurt in the first quarter of an 85-83 loss to Utah on Monday. An MRI performed in Houston on Tuesday showed a crack in the fifth metatarsal bone of the foot, Dawson said. "It can be fixed two ways," Dawson said. "You could just put a cast on it, but it takes forever. The thing most people do is have the surgery." It is not known if the surgery will prevent Yao from playing in the world championships in Japan, which begin Aug. 19. Yao said he thought he hurt his foot when Utah's Mehmet Okur accidentally kicked it. Yao limped through a few more minutes and converted a three-point play before hobbling off the court with 3:51 left in the opening quarter. Earlier this season, Yao missed 21 games following surgery to remove an infection from his left big toe. Since the All-Star break, Yao has been one of the NBA's top performers, averaging 26.6 points and 12 rebounds. Eliminated from playoff contention, the Rockets have four games left in their injury-wracked season, starting Wednesday against Minnesota. Leading scorer Tracy McGrady has missed 30 games with recurring back problems. As a whole, Rockets players have missed 258 games to injuries.
Now it is offical that Yao will rest for 6 months and will have a surgery on his left foot this weekend....He will miss all the CNT games and Preseason Training camp for next season..Just when you think things couldn't get worse. Rightnow this injury not only jeopardises CNT games also Rox's Next season!!! Great Job JVG
It's already being talked about in these threads. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=111492 http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=111531
Yao should be ready for training camp. He'll have 8 weeks of absolutely no physical activity, but he can begin putting weight on the toe after about 2 months. Yao has always been a quick healer. I don't have a doubt about him being ready in October.
Pardon my language, but shut the **** up when you don't know what you're talking about. It says FOUR to SIX months. SIX months, which is the longest according to this article, would be October. So, he would miss a couple of weeks of training camp...big deal. I understand CNT fans being upset by this since he might not play for them, but if you are going to be selfish about it and blame Van Gundy and not care about the team you can get off and stay off of this site. I'm glad we have Yao, but I cannot stand all the people it brought with him that put him above the team. Van Gundy and everyone else on this team has a job and is working to keep that job in the future...not tank and move up a spot or two in the draft to make all the fans happy. Whether or not you like his coaching don't blame him for Yao breaking his foot, and don't hate on him for not tanking the season. The guy is just doing his job. Reading some posts around here lately has absolutely made me cringe. A higher pick is nice but I understand these guys wanting to win for the sake of their job and their pride.
I see all of these stupid post rest yao rest yao?????? Yao has not peak yet. He is still learning the game. This could be a good opportunity for him to learn to score when he is double team and other things without afraid of loosing a game.
Man I couldn't agree more. While I understand that many people on here want Yao to play in the CNT stuff, this is a ROCKETS forum, and we want what's best for our team, not the CNT. Not to mention that Yao rehabing instead of playing for the next 6 months might actually be MORE beneficial to the Rockets (I know I know, sorry, again with the TEAM concept ) because he will get the rest he needs in the offseason.
good, he'll get some rest. worst case scenario, an out of shape rusty yao for the first month next season.
Before you blame JVG for Yao's injury, ask yourself this question first. Would Yao have sat out these last 10 games to tank? HELL NO. Yao is a soldier, he NEVER QUITS. You chinese pride yourself and your culture by declaring how much of a hard worker and always bearing an "NEVER QUIT" attitude and there you have it, he never quit and broke his foot on ACCIDENT. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN PEOPLE. DO NOT BLAME JVG!
Yao's going to watch so much film, his head is going to explode. Don't be surprised if he comes back short, pasty, bald with sunken-in eyes and a sarcastic streak.
This makes sense! Now i understand Why people are angry when i blame Yao's injury on JVG. "sh*t happens" right? Rightnow my only concern is 4~6 months are really long period for any athlete to recover. I just hope after having the rest that is needed he will keep shape and prepare himself for rox next season. what is more i Hope this injury will not be chronic. LET'S PRAY FOR YAO
This is gonna work out ok for the Rockets! Yao will be back in time to get in shape before camp and then by the time we hit the preseason he will be rolling! The more I think about it he will not have to waste time in China and I predict a bigger, badder and most importantly hungrier Yao next season! Houston Rockets Basketball 2006-2007!
I just found out that Yao likes playing WOW online! Now he will have the time to play... He plays the character of TROLLS. and he has reached the max-level 60. He says he like play TROLLS because It is tall even not as tall as he is.
I am concerned whether his foot will be a problem for years to come. I cannot understand why people are trying to make this out a blessing. An injury is an injury, it casts shadow on a player's future. This is not the first or the second time he has had problem with that foot. What are people happy about?
The YOF are out of control. Who gives a crap about the CNT. What does the CNT have to do with the Rockets or the NBA?
