Very good point SuperS32.Does anyone know how is Wallace doing in his workouts? If he is having good workouts he may not last till the 23th pick. ------------------
well this is certainly a surprise...it's the first time i've heard about terence morris going in the first round in a very long while. i've seen him in the second round in almost every mock draft i've looked at. not to say that he isn't a good player. i'm actually a fan of his, i remember seeing him predicted as the number 1 overall pick after his sophomore season (si did an early prediction on the next years draft) so you know he's got game. i just don't know what happened to him, never really heard why he dropped off the charts. but who i would really like to see the rockets draft at 23 is gerald wallace. the guy is the biggest animal lol. i mean everyone says he has no jump shot and that may be true haha i've never really gotten a chance to see him play. but from what i've read he had a bad season b/c alabama tried to play him in the post, in order to allow rod grizzard (a projected top 5 pick in the 2002 draft) to get more minutes. and wallace is not a post player. from what else i've read, wallace is said to be a horse, who is one of the hardest workers out there. the guy always hustles, and has the attitude of a champion. i think w/ this work ethic, he will develop a deadly shot. but i guess the one thing that makes me like gerald wallace so much is the fact that last year, he was the number 1 high school player, easy. eddie griffin, darius miles, and the rest were rated below him. he was the gatorade national player of the year, and started in the mcdonald's high school american game. i really like the high school players in part for that reason. almost all the great ones, jordon, shaq, kg, vince carter, kobe, t-mac, just about everyone played in that game, so most of the future nba stars play in that game. and last year, gerald wallace was the brightest of them all. espn had an article on him talking about how he had a 49 inch vert...i dunno how true that is, but you know this guy is an animal. ohh i would love to see the rockets take him with this pick lol ------------------
NBADraft.net currently has Terrence Morris going as a pick in the mid-40's. ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils.
Don't rely on them too much, or for that matter, most of the mock drafts. They don't consider team needs, and don't see potential in certain players. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
Many mock drafts have Morris going late. I wouldn't bet on him being available in the 2nd. I just wanted to throw this idea out there, someone tell me what you think (gently). If we know we want Morris but don't want to risk some other team's interest... If Woods likely won't be around by #13 and he has put on 25 pounds recently as was reported elsewhere on the board (i.e., less of a lightweight, can run like a gazelle)... Keeping in mind Rudy likes more mature players...and two #1 picks is less of a cap burden than three (one of whom might not even play anyway)... Would Cleveland have any reason to trade the #8 and the #20 for our #13, #18, and #23? ------------------
Roxy: I think I was implying that Morris has targeted the Rockets and is relying on, "helping along" some things to get him here, not that the Rockets have targeted him as our 23 pick. PS: I like Gerald Wallace @ 23 a lot also. Good weight, great overall skills, a Mario Ellie work ethic and from ALABAMA. A pretty good package there. ------------------ [This message has been edited by oeilpere (edited June 06, 2001).]
Oeilpere, Here's something that's had me thinking lately. If the top 12 go in such a way that players such as Woods, Gasol, etc. are gone, is it possible that Morris becomes the next person on the Rockets wishlist? The Rockets obviously have two major needs in this draft-- a big man and an SF. Is it possible that Morris is higher on our wishlist than Haywood, Murphy, or Bradley? And, if this is or could be true, what would you expect Rudy, CD, and the gang to do? Even though Morris might be their next highest player, do you think they would consider going big (with someone like Haywood, Bradley, etc.) at 13 even if Morris is next on their list, considering Morris will probably be around later and the others won't? My questions essentially are these-- do you think Morris could rise or is as high as 13 on the Rockets draft list, and, if he can get that high, would you expect the Rockets to pass on him at 13 and get someone big who's farther down on their list? (due to the likelihood of Morris being available later) ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor and Jason Collier fan club! Draftsource.net-- the premier source for draft info. It's ridiculous to use the word "potential" when describing a 4-year college senior like Morris. If he wasn't able to unlock his potential in 4 years at a good program like Maryland, what is suddenly going to change when he gets to the league. If the Rockets are going to draft a SF at 23 based on potential, I would rather see them get Wallace because he has as much or more Potential than anyone else in the draft. ------------------
I wouldnt use the word potential with Morris as well. Personally, Im happy with the style of basketball he brings to the table currently as I feel it would fit well on this team. I think Morris can step in and immediately contribute. Morris's game is dependent on those around him b/c he is a complementary player not a star which is why he played so well with Steve Francis and not as well once Francis left. Maryland folks may like Juan Dixon, but Dixon does not create the kind of opportunities for teammates that Francis does. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
This doesn't happen all that often, but it does happen. Vince Carter was good in college, but I never would have predicted he would turn into the superstar that he is today. He was second fiddle to Jamison on that North Carolina team. Every once in a while, a player has an average college career, and a spectacular NBA career, simply because their style of play is better suited to the NBA. ------------------ What is daylight savings time? MManal, I think you make a great point. The reason why Morris probably doesn't want to go to any other team is because he won't be very good and probably wont fit well on most other teams. Sophmore year with Francis, he averaged 15ppg,7rpg, and 3 bpg. Without Francis senior year, he averaged 12ppg, 7rpg, and 1 bpg. Also, I think Francis is the only person who will be able to motivate him, not Rudy, or any other coach in the NBA. ------------------ President of the Pete Chilcutt Fan Club.
I thought Morris had his best season the year after Francis left? His Junior year? What were his numbers that year? ------------------ CC.NET Sim League Web Page My Team (Sonics)
